Whats the green thing when Voodoo hold block?

PeterQuillPeterQuill Posts: 1,373 ★★★★
I swear I have played enough voodoo in my time to know all the nuances with the champ, but now there is a greenlooking buff/lightning bolt when he hold block. Am I crazy or has that not always been there and what does it mean?

It's to state he has more energy resistance when blocking. It's stated in his passive abillities, and he's had it since release. The new icon displaying it's active nature however is from a recent update.

Funny story about Voodoo is that he was once a great counter to Magik in AW right after her rebalance since he could hold block when she was in Limbo and mitigate most of the damage. After enough players realized this and Magik was thoroughly getting destroyed they decided to patch Voodoo and make him take full damage from Limbo. Mordo still takes reduced damage from Limbo when he holds block though. Kabam is funny.

It was decided because that was the sole purpose of Mordo’s sig is to increase energy resistance while blocking so they wanted his ability to be better than DV’s since his is just a basic ability. Sucks but it is what it is.

What fresh nonsense is that? It’s on purpose and not a bug? That’s one of the stupidest things in the game if they did that on purpose. Breaking internal consistency for no good reason should be taboo in game development.

The abilities could be better worded, but that's how they are intended to work. Voodoo abilities reduces energy damage from attacks, wile blocking. While Mordo sig ability reduces energy damage in general, not just from attacks

That’s not how they read though. Mordo “gains XXXX energy resistance while he remains blocking” and Voodoo “increase energy resist [sic] while blocking”. Changing it for Voodoo adds other issues that don’t need to exist like if Magik attacks Voodoo during Limbo while he’s blocking, does he get the resistance or not, and if she stands there, does he take full damage? What if she whiffs the attack during Limbo while he’s blocking, what happens?

Voodoo only gains energy resistance against attacks. Basically he gains resistance against Magneto, DS, Havok, and Torch attacks but he does not gain the resistance against DoT effects. That’s probably the best way to say it.

I don’t understand decision making like that. What was the value in changing it to specifically be less than blanket resistance like everyone else? What value was wrung out of the extra effort to do that and then document the difference so profoundly poorly?

For all that, why does it even come on when he blocks but isn’t being attacked even though it doesn’t do anything? They could have copied Carnage’s passive generating function for when he’s being attacked and limited it to appearing when he blocks or keep it present but greyed out and it only lights green when he’s blocking and getting attacked.

It is worded suboptimally, but the intent was to say that Voodoo has increased energy resistance when he is literally blocking an attack while Mordo gains resistance while the player is holding block. The verb "blocking" means two different things here: the act of forming a block, and the act of deflecting an attack with a block.

Just took voodoo against magik and the damage from limbo was reduced by 50% while blocking, did they change it back with the addition of the new icon?

Just wanted to make sure that info i gave was accurate, voodoo is for sure reducing limbo damage by exactly 50% when blocking, i really like voodoo so thought this was great. Damage was 120 a tick not blocking, 60 a tick while blocking.
