Kabam is on a roll

I must say, after Seatin (and most of the community after the initial Act 7 beta) showed a clear disinterest in playing the game a few months ago, Kabam has truly strove to make this game better.

The Magneto buffs
Variant 5
Nerfing of Act 6
Better rewards in side events/Cavalier EQ

Just a few of the concerted efforts by developers that show they’ve finally listened to what we’ve been saying.

That being said, are you all the way back on board or are you still mistrusting?

I’m not going to say thanks when we fought for them to end the neglect of their own business. It would’ve died if they didn’t change things. After seeing the Cavalier rewards, I don’t know how long this honeymoon phase will last.

To be clear, this is a business. They provide a product; we provide revenue in exchange for access to that product (or at least most of us do). The moment they stop providing a product we are interested in to the point we are willing to spend money, they don’t have jobs.

I’m glad things have been better lately, and hope the trend continues.

Yeah, most would; I would. Many of us have sunk too much time and money into the game to quit, even when we haven’t enjoyed the game in months.

If you want to see the future, look at my recent post about how long people have been playing. Most people have been here 3-5 years. That means new players are joining/sticking at an incredibly low rate.

As the old guard falls off, it spells death for the game. The changes are largely catered to appeasing the long held qualms of that player base. Every time there is a regression on Kabam’s part, it chips away at that demographic ever so slightly.

I’m not saying I’m not happy with the game now. I am at least aware of how this all works, and Kabam keeping a finger on the pulse of players’ quality of life of paramount to the longevity of the game.

definitely agree with everything you said there. but Im not sure if the changes kabam has been making negatively affect the newer/early game players. I don't think it's that kabam is doing bad, but just that the game isnt as fun in the beginning compared to what happens later on. all of the veterans made it past that period during a time where there wasn't much other content, and they made it to now.

I’m not saying they’re making changes that are bad for new players. Imagine joining today. You get a couple 2 stars, play for an hour or two before or after work. You don’t know all the best moves to make, so you blow some units on PHCs- maybe you get a 3*. A week in you’re enjoying the game and check out some YouTube videos or reddit, and people are playing with maxed 5*s and r3 6*s. You play for another couple months, sometimes more than others before you realize how much time the game is taking and how long it would take you to “catch up”. You get hard stuck at some point, and the game stops being fun. You start playing other stuff.

That’s the hurdle new players have to jump. All the 3-5 year people have years of experience gradually growing into mastering new mechanics, and learning new champs. New players have to learn all that stuff at once, and see other people making it look so easy. I would personally just feel like it was too much needed for something that’s supposed to be fun.

It’s too much for new players. People compare themselves to others. If Kabam expedites their progression, the old players will be pissed. If Kabam keeps progression slow, then people will be discouraged. I’m sympathetic to the balance that has to be considered.
