They would have been very even without suicides or if both had suicides. Ronin is more sustainable with suicides though. I just wasnt willing to spend 90 units changing masteries just to prove a point.

Going by hit count alone doesn't matter imo.
Blade for ex can do it without a single hit with just parrying. It's not fast or effective but it works
