Will there be mastery core offer (50% discount) this year? Should I use my units in gifting or wait for that offer?

    You could ask friends to gift you a core and you gift them the equivalent value. That way you still get points towards solo/alliance milestones.

    If you need the cores now, then I'd suggest using the gifting event to get them. You'll be getting a return on your investment through the gifting rewards system. So, theoretically, you are getting them at a discounted rate and you don't have to wait and hope that a random deal comes along.
