Just duped my 6* overseer. Know very little about him but know some people really like him. Is he worth trying out and possibly ranking?

Occasional utility with reducing AAR of opponent specials, can help for footloose, Doom Aura, Juggs unstoppable, but you’ll see that useful in longer fights - not so much in short ones
His max ramp up takes the opponent filling 6 bars of power (each gives you one gamma power to a max of 6), but a few things can speed that up:
- opponents with power gain or increased combat power rate, taunt helps control that
- If duped, triggering an immunity will give you a gamma power, so that’s poison immune or nullify immune. So buffet, mystics or poison speeds up ramp up in a big way
- If duped, opponent ability failing due to decreased AA gives you a gamma power. So that’s what I mentioned with the reducing AAR of specials
Each gamma power you have increases attack, and when over 3 and you throw a special (having 2 and throwing a special that pushes them over a bar of power will also work here), triggers cosmic mode.
Here, your light attacks do a nice burst of physical damage. It lasts longer the more gamma you had, and is paused during both champs specials. Gaining gamma while in this mode no longer gives you the gamma, but instead a fury buff which is more potent the more gamma you used to enter cosmic mode (so 6 to begin will have a stronger fury than 3)
Playstyle is super simple. Get to sp3, get to 6 gamma. Bait specials so they’re on low power. Parry, throw sp3. Do MLLLL and get as many light attacks in as you can. Use sp1 to stun lock. If you want, throw heavy before your sp3 then parry and throw sp3 to help opponent throw specials so you can stay aggressive.
That’s the basics, he has other tidbits of nice utility. Like sp1 regenning some missing health, special attacks letting you have a similar autoblock safety net to Medusa, and also letting you go stun immune while that’s up. A disorient on sp2 is ok but I don’t use it much. Sp3 also inflicts physical vulnerability to let your burst damage do more.
I’d personally say if you have Spidey or Negative they do a fair bit of what he already does, but I’ve rank 3d them all very close together and even though they have overlap, I’ve found uses for them all. If you like him, deffo rank him up. The burst damage is crazy good at times, he’s tanky as hell and he has a lot of nice utility and damage. If you’re interested, I can share a video or two
"The Overseer has just started his conquering career and while he isn’t villainous, he’s not quite noble either."
So he's not as good as those categorized as heroes, but not as bad as those who are villains.
Very good, BitterSteel pretty much explained it all. The only thing I’d add is you also get extra burst damage punishing the enemies specials and heavy attacks
Overall though, and outside of those fights, unduped is still absolutely fine.
