Skill and Cosmic class catalysts needed to rank up Karnak?

Does anyone know why you would need cosmic and skill class catalysts to rank up a skill champion (Karnak). I've been playing this game for a while and have never seen this (or have I been blind until now)?

    It's because he's an inhuman who didn't go in the Terrigen mist to get his powers, instead he did martial arts.

    Hence the skill for martial arts and cosmic because he's inhuman.

    The comment by Matt is correct.
    Karnak is the only champ in-game with this unique feature.

    It's both a reference and a logical one because of his origin.
