Then maybe don't use LC/DE?
Not every game mode has to suit the use of them.

Seeing as week 2 of BG has a set of nodes that makes it absolutely impossible to be competitive with them active, I feel like it's ok to use them for week 1 if you like them.

I don't see any differences in the new beta... what's the point of it if they aren't making improvements? If it's gonna cost energy, it should be like 5, not 15 (or 30 like they originally wanted)

They changed how long the fights are, changed the scoring system, and have two new sets of nodes for each week. Those are pretty significant changes to the game mode.
