MCOC Was Not Featured In The Disney / Marvel Video Game Showcase, But Mirrorverse Was. Worrying?

Disney / Marvel just put out a youtube 'showcase' of new and up coming updates to all brand video games.... in the mobile game section of the presentation we saw Marvel Strike Force, Kabam's own Disney Mirrorverse.... but MCOC was no where to be found. As if the game didn't even exist.

Is this something to worry about, or am I way over thinking this?

Mcoc doesn't need the advertisement like the other games do. This game has always had bare minimum when it comes to that and it still rakes in far more revenue compared to all the other games in the showcase combined.

I don’t know. I don’t social media much. At all. Same for YouTube. I personally don’t get much out of it. So ads geared at Twitter/ Instagram or other platforms for the web I could not comment on. But MCOC always seemed to have have a saturated print ad campaign. I still collect comics and up to say 2020 there would be an add for MCOC in every book I bought. For years.

Looks like MCOC is still going strong.

So the game is NOT dying?

    Who knew?

They pretty much confirmed it will still happen. Just with a different name and without the ability to gift

    you wish.

I won’t say they won’t make some money. Logic dictates it will be a decrease though. By changing the ability to gift they have disincentivezed purchasing gifts to buy.

Whales will still whale. But if they aren’t getting the same rank rewards and can’t gift GGC. It is illogical to assume they will automatically buy at the same rate. The rank rewards were better than the crystals.

And casual spenders who only do deals 4 times a year (gifting, cyber weekend etc ) are definitely disincentivezed.

The only thing for debate is the decrease of scale. Will it be as little as 10%? Will it be as high as 40%? But make no mistake. Decrease there will be.

Eliminating the need to “gift” with someone to receive said ggc just makes it that much easier. Now they don’t have to search for a matching bank roll to swap the quantity of gifts they desire, instead they’ll just buy what they want hassle free.

Last year between iTunes and Google Play, they made about $21 million in December alone. Factoring the fraudulent crystals (some 800,000+ I can’t remember what the post said exactly) if they had been bought for units purchased through the official stores would have equalled another nearly $8.5 million. So nearly $30 million in December alone IF there was no fraud.

Now that we have R5 materials coming, you can bet the new crystals for the holiday season will have them. I fully expect to see that $30 million mark, and likely well above it too. Again, just for December. That won’t factor in Cyber Weekend deals that happen shortly before that.

Also just to cut the head off the snake before someone mentions it, that’s a lot of money. A lot of money that Kabam doesn’t get to see all of, because they’re owned by Netmarble. The money goes to them instead before Kabam sees anything from it.

I have to disagree. I see it as outward ripple effect. Throwing a pebble into a pond. The change touches on more than just crystals of themselves.

I mean first. Part of what you say is predicated on a bet. The wager that the crystals will include R5 mats. And if they don’t?

Even if they do, based on current meta, would the purchase price remain the same? Or because if their value will the unit cost increase?

There’s also the issue of alt accounts. All sort of ripple effect there. People created alt accounts specifically for gifting.

I get that - and I believe the thought is - well if you spent $50 on your alt to gift to yourself you can just transfer that $50 and buy your own.

But there’s going to be drop off there. For one no rank rewards. So less incentive. For 2 there were by products. When your alt got rank rewards it actually helped your main. Awakening gem for your alt? Use it in alliance “item use” objectives. Rank materials? Use them on your alt for alliance “summoner advancement” objectives.

I’ll just say I don’t think it’s as simple as transferring the money from spending with/on alts to your main. There are other considerations that aren’t being taken into account.

For a company this size, what matters the most is EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization). I'd love to know that number. EBITDA tells you more about a company than any number.

If you don't think they are putting as much thought as possible into how best to monetize the new replacement you are kidding yourself. I don't know why you keep saying that without rank rewards there will be a drop off; if they think rank rewards were a big motivating factor I highly doubt they won't have similar functionality in the replacement to keep things the same.

People bought GGC or other items in the gifting event to send to other people so they could earn points for milestones and rank rewards as well as the gamble of the contents of the GGC. Why do you think they won't have a similar but renamed crystal and still give points for buying things with units for yourself? Yes, there could be a change in how much they earn, but it doesn't make sense to say anything other than that they will be doing everything they can to keep the overall end experience the same so as not to impact their earnings. Your position is as much a guess as anyone else's.
