I stand by my r5 White Mags.
He is a gentle breeze vs Metal Champs.
Red Mags is a hurricane.

I don't know the last time I used Red Mags. I feel like most new metal champs are built to combat his abilities. This often means that they combat White Mags' abilities as well, but not always. Regardless, White Mags comes with a lot of utility that's great even if you don't use him for the specific fights in the quest. His pre-fight is soooooo good. I bring him along a lot more than I do Red Mags.

I can't remember the last time I used Red Mags because I needed to use him for a node/opponent.

However, I still frequently have White Mags on my team solely for that pre-fight.

Red mags for me. I stil use him in BG for annoying defenders like Maestro and FAM. One sp3 with prowess and they melt.
