Who would you choose as your next R3?

I already have Onslaught and Venom (both unduped) as my two R3 champs and finally have the t4A’s to rank up another to R3. I’ve been leaning Chavez all along but I’ve opened some pretty great champs while waiting for these t4A’s. Here are my options:

If you're bg focussed, r3 serpent.

Otherwise go with chavez.

I always participate in bg’s though I don’t always love them. Serpent was definitely a consideration but I think I’ll wait to do him next. Hopefully I’ll dupe him sometime before I’m able to take another up to R3.

Unawakened Serpent, Korg and Photon are all easy on defense cause what makes them so op on defense is locked behind that awakened ability so definitely not those.
I'd go either Sasquatch Guardian or Silk, depends which one you like using more. Silk would be pure attacker of course, Sasquatch and Guardian would be dual threat.

Silk, Guardian, Juggs and Chavez are the ones I’m considering most I think unless someone could convince me otherwise.

And I totally agree about those other 3 needing the awakening to be top tier choices. I wish I’d have duped Photon instead of Silk. I love Silk but I just think Photon is a better dual use champ and I’d probably have chosen Photon if she was duped.

Here's the thing, Silk Guardian and Juggs will do what they do at r2 regardless (I have all of them at r2 already myself), that's just how huge the damage output is so r3 won't make that much of a difference in BGs so I see it as kind of a waste personally.

Chavez is definitely a solid option since she's awakened but if you r3 her I can guarantee you she will be banned 90% of the time, and you really don't want that as she's a top Serpent counter. Main reason I haven't r3 mine

That leaves Sasquatch which would be my personal pick for two reasons:
1. He's one of the very few if not the only defender who can stall a lot regardless of how good you are the game, very few champs can actually nuke him at r3 even unduped.
2. He's actually a really solid attacker and can easily do fights in 30-45 seconds depending on rage and Wrath RNG

Yes, unduped no boosts no suicides nothing just r3 raw damage, he doesn't need the dupe for attack at all. Dupe only makes him tankier on defense pretty much, but he's already a tank at r3 cause of the healthpool and all the damage reduction from the rage stacks so it's not a must.

Thanks for creating this thread @TikkaMasala - selfishly getting a lot from it as I was about to R3 my Chavez and now @ItsClobberinTime and Trappy may have convinced me to do my duped Sasquatch instead.

@ItsClobberinTime would your reco change outside of BGs? Much like @TikkaMasala I do BGs - generally making GC - but then don’t prioritize it after that point. I pretty much always end the season in Uru and am fine with that - I primarily farm daily objectives and try to time my GC arrival for the last 4-5 days of the season. I also don’t do AW.

So, with BGs not being my top priority and other content being more of a priority, would you still reco Sassy (sig 40) over Chavez (unawakened)?

If you're like me and just do the BG because of the milestones and enjoy fun champs to use then I'll recommend:
-Guardian: i have him and it's awesome, his sig only makes him better
-America: also have her, so powerful and useful
-Hyperion: although he's to reliant on RNG
-Silk
-Shang Chi: My first r3. Has cleanse at will, slow, can get easy openings and absurd damage with little to non charges
-CASW: he's an odd choice, but I'll love to dupe mine, has a ton of utility, besides it's not a metal tech, miss counter, can autoblock, has debuffs and buffs, he's a tech that benefits from physical damage instead of shock.

I also vote sassy. I took my duped one over Chavez as my most recent r3, and while I think Chavez is the better champ, sassy needs that extra attack and health more than she does. R3 sassy is a huge stall, and wins me almost every round I place him. He also can work for the occasional maestro or serpent on offense.

Chavez just hits hard enough at r2, and since she’s duped she’d be a ban target at r3. Juggs follows this same logic, just without the part about being duped. He’d still be banned as an unawakened r3 tho.

Serpent I wouldn’t r3 until dupe, and I’d wait for rebalancing to be done and over with before investing further into him.

Guardian I’ve seen mentioned but I wouldn’t rank him yet, he gets smacked by 3/4 upcoming metas in the next 2 months. He’ll be good in the next vt meta, but that’s about it. In gc he gets armor broken, in s21 VT his armor gets nullified, and s21 GC is high energy diet which is guardian’s whole damage source. I was planning to take up guardian as my next r3 but I waited on the metas being announced. Glad I did, cuz now I’m going with maestro.

Hyperion, silk, and probably my runner up choices for you. Hype is great, MSD has an r3 hype and has done some impressive things with him. Kindred would be a painful r3 but tbh he’s just get banned every match so idk if you wanna do that🤷. Silk I know is good I just don’t really use her so can’t say much about her lol.

Hey thank you all for the great input. It’s given me a lot to really think about here. I’m going to take my Shang Chi and Sassy to R2 for now and hold off a bit longer on my R3 decision. I think I’m kinda sold on ultimately taking up my Sassy though which is crazy since I was so clearly focused on Chavez for so long. Appreciate all the help especially @ItsClobberinTime.

Glad I convinced someone else then lol he is still very slept on as an attacker for some weird reason and I really don't get why.

As for your question, I'd say yes. If Chavez was awakened then I probably would go Chavez but unduped Chavez is not worth r3 imo, that awakened ability gives her so much extra damage even at sig 20.

Yep, Chavez is a better attacker for sure when duped but if you r3 her she's going to be an instaban 90% of the time so she'll rarely see the light of day in BGs lol and also, Sasquatch is still a top 10 defender in the game (if not top 5) so the fact that he's this strong on attack too gives him a lot of points. Good luck with that rank up!

@phillgreen I’m sure the OP will answer also, but I’ve got an R3 Venom also and he just destroys everything - particularly if you have a 5 or 6* Venom relic. He and piggy are probably the R3 decisions I feel the best about.

R3 domino is bonkers. She gets a ton of kills for me on both offense and defense, BGs and AW.
