Arena grinding and suicides

For those grinding arena for units while still playing competitively in bg and high level war, do you toggle your suicide masteries on and off multiple time during the week when each arena is refreshed?

I know the cost, but is it worth the returns?

Wanting to do more grinding, @DNA3000’s unit grind posts are ace but was curious what top grinders are doing in relation to masteries whilst still being competitive. Had mine switched off for a few years now.

I grind milestones. Had suicides turned on for a few years, have had them off since necropolis carinas. I haven’t noticed much of a difference honestly but I’m not going all out in arena.

Basically what he said, i had them on and kept them on all throughout sos/aoa and even crucible. But carina challenges forces you to have them off.

Ive just taken a break from arena since, feels nice ngl as that game mode feels like a part time job even just grinding for milestones in the 3 arenas

In my experience they do still give an okay boost but arenas are so stupid easy and fast to do these days that the difference between having them off and on isn't too big of a deal

Suicides are a good long-term investment for arena. Makes them significantly faster.

They effectively increase your damage by 30%, so it can cut down your time significantly. I usually turn them back on during off-season and that's about it. You can definitely tell a difference between having them and not.

Agree with others that recoils make a noticable difference. For a casual grind they're not required, but if you grind arena regularly, it adds up.

But... you will be have to toggle them off sometimes. I took them off for the mutant Carina's. Will have to do so again for GG Showcase. I tend to run them 24/7, and years ago I never took them off regardless of content, but over time found myself needing to do so more frequently.

I did a stretch without recoils at all last year when I was doing no arenas and it felt like a different game. Freely throwing specials, health doesn't melt away and more variety on champs I could use.

I've been playing since 2017 & was running recoil since I was able to unlock them. I took them off about a year ago & haven't used them since. I haven't done any arena since the DSE became full time. Constantly running DP & Fury synergy to offset recoil damage wasn't fun anymore. Plus, it meant I was only getting 3 other spots per quest. Too many non-recoil fun champs, talking to you Kate Bishop to use. Do they make things faster, sure. I'd rather go a bit slower & keep my item use to my screw ups rather than unavoidable damage

i'm a regular arena grinder and it's not possible for me without suicides and it's well-worth switching them off and on between war.

if you want to optimize, try scheduling important content with war fights so you don't have to keep switching. the wait is frustrating sometimes but it saves units.

Arena express makes suicides trivial. That is the real time loss… screen loads. I tried it with suicides and with them off. I just leave them off now

I will usually run some sort of boosts from overflow because why not?

I dont see much difference at some point, a bit of time maybe, point wise i only grind to milestones and it saves maybe 1 round or 2 at most ..

You can use suicide masteries in arena while also having them off in bg. All you have to do is switch to your non suicide masteries, update your bg masteries, then switch back to suicides without updating your masteries in your bg deck. That’s what I do at least.

I generally run them 80% of the time and turn them off when a new story mode or before necro challenges

if you do all arenas regularly it's more than worth it and depending on your roster you can do all EQ and generally even story content without turning them off.

turning them off is mainly needed for war fights and the occasional AOA that really punishes recoil.

I do arena regularly and haven’t used suicides in years. The sole purpose of arena is to grind units. It isn’t for fun lol

Switching between mastery builds costs units, therefore cuts into your overall unit accumulation. Which to me, is counterintuitive.

For me personally, my roster is deep enough where arena grinding is more efficient now days than it’s ever been. Whether I finish 5 rounds before normal with suicides on doesn’t really impact my overall time spent grinding arena. I’m still finished by like day 2 into the 3 day series. What would impact me the most is spending units switching mastery builds back and forth for arena/content/war lol

fair point, each player has different goals and i value arena and war so i have to switch when needed. my hands are messed up too so i can't run arena without recoil either. recently even with recoil, not having arena express is hurting my hand more than usual.

I get all arena milestones and play T1 AW. Suicides stay off during season, on during offseason. No constant switching, it would defeat the purpose.
I wish Arena would have mastery loadouts, just like BGs do.
