Kabam, it’s time to stop being afraid of champs

This goes for Herc, Magik, Ghost, Scorpion, etc… and even Quake. The game is so niche now, no 1 champ is going to “break” anything. So much content we have to bring in Saga champs, 1 champ only, specific hash tags, specific classes, etc… that it shouldn’t be a concern anymore. Often, some of those restrictions are combined. These types of content are also the one with the highest rewards. It made sense when Story content was the main “end game” focus, but now content like AoA, WoW, Carina Challenges, Crucible are all areas where many focus their time and effort and all are champ restricted. You also are making the champions (defenders and attackers) more niche to do something specific and then counter something specific (which is a little annoying but that’s a different convo). It’s time to give us ALL our champs and let us use them. If you’re worried about Magik in AW, just blacklist her. Worried about Herc in story content, give the Boss fight have a #God ban. The “reasons” don’t make sense anymore. It’s time to set them free.

I am continuously surprised that Kabam consistently fails to accept arguments that would literally fail to convince anyone else in the world about anything.

Quake is a unique case and a completely different argument. She essentially bypasses the mechanics of the game, which defeats its core purpose. In my opinion, she’s fine where she is. For nostalgia reasons, she could be left untouched or even buffed slightly. Kabam could also implement an in-game voting system to gauge the majority opinion and proceed based on player consensus.

As for champions like Magik and others, they’re fine and should be introduced. Some of them will eventually be released as 7-stars, but the question is when. Take Blade, for example: when he was finally released, nobody cared. He’s not even viewed as a Top 10 or Top 20 champion in the Skill class, let alone the entire game. Kabam often waits too long to release these champions, overhyping or exaggerating their “OP” or “broken” potential. (Content Creators are at fault here as well) By the time they’re released, they have little value or relevance to the current game meta. Newer champions with better mechanics and higher damage potential have already taken their place.

What I believe though is: if these champions are primarily a defensive threat, they’d have been released without much hesitation. But if they also possess “significant” offensive value, they are viewed as a threat to game balance. For instance, if Magik had Limbo but no real power control, she’d probably already exist as a 6-star or even a 7-star because we already have champions with stronger defensive capabilities.

Whenever people talk about how a diverse roster is needed for endgame challenges, I always think about the Eternity of Pain Carina's Challenges, where the main strategy for literally every single one was "bring Hercules and use him for every fight in the first half, then swap him out and suffer through the back half". I know those challenges were a while ago at this point, but the whole idea of those fights was that you needed diversity, and Hercules was a very viable option for literally every single one.

Neither did shocker, zemo, namor, doctor strange, thor, you name it. Its strange that she’s just been left where she’s at and all of these inferior champs get tuned down.

Because nerfs never really happened back in the day only nerf they did was the great nerf of 12.0 and back then no one could utilize her so she never got nerfed until like 2018 2019 in wars where she broke kabams systems and players got banned that got reverted, and they left her as a 5 to never nerf because how high of a skill.

its why they do rarity locks instead until nerfed now, but the players wont allow that (2023) stream with mike and jax last day of the big giveaway answered this, saying they had notes of the nerf that would make them open for newer stars, the nerf on quake they said was to fix the bug she has with her evade and concussion changes to physical resist debuff meaning more damage but cant take fights she normally would but still same results on some that it doesnt matter on.

And when someone posted a forum post poll it was 50/50 on nerf or dont nerf and they want the community to agree on the nerf or they be locked forever or they just do it anyway but i think this is down to the community at the time no clue if it still is or if they are looking into this more. But im personally still down with them being nerfed if its what they say ghost level useful

Let’s not forget that 6* SW couldn’t happen because she would break the game (according to Kabam Miike… citing that he had played with the 6* version and told us she would)…. Now we have 7* version and even then, needs a synergy for most to use her. I’d at least like the CCP to be able to play those champions at the higher rarity and then be able to speak on it.

We only see the op champs that are not 7 stars while ignoring the non 7 star duds that far outnumber these great champions. If you are ok with Herc, Magik, Ghost, Scorpion as 7 stars then you should also be ok with Kamala, Rhino, Captain America, Captain Marvel, etc. as 7 stars. I'm okay with not having these broken 7 stars if the trade off is that these duds also never see the light of day.

No it's not, it's saying those that shout loudest are not always the majority. The forums represent a small proportion of the entire player base. They might be the most passionate or hardcore of that playerbase but it's still only a subset of it.

It's not saying that your opinions don't matter. It's saying that your opinions aren't always right.

Plus that quote is taken out of context as it was in relation to his anecdote regarding the first offer he devised and how it was panned on the boards but that view wasn't reflected in the sales at all as it was very successful.

He should have probably have put an always in that quote though so it doesn't seem quite so dismissive lol

I only suggested a voting system as a courtesy, a way to gauge where the community stands. Quake could easily be left as she is and never be released as a 6-star, and that would be fine. However, if the majority of players want her buffed, then the opposition wouldn’t have as much reason to complain. In a way, this approach takes the decision out of Kabam’s hands, meaning any backlash would be directed at the community’s decision rather than Kabam itself. Its better that way sometimes in my opinion.

No offense man but there is a reason why loads of those champs aren’t 7 stars. And I really hate that argument advocating that ‘they wouldn’t be broken’. Quake will never be more than a 5 star and people need to grow up and accept it. There were many many bans in aw back then because of her win records stating ‘0 hits given’. She is too broken and she will never get a higher variant unless her kit is drastically changed. Kabam will release the other champs accordingly if they feel like it, and it probably won’t ever happen. I won’t even get started on herc… it’s a good idea man but isn’t rational in theory and they’re absolute game changers( some of your suggestions). Also banning a whole variety of champs with tags such as ‘God’ is a bit silly
