Balance Update: Scream and Jack O’Lantern

Hey all,
Balance Team here again with an update on the latest round of Champions up for review, Scream and Jack O'Lantern!

Scream

The Battlerealm’s newest Symbiote in Scream was designed to be a potent Attacker with a unique spin on the Auto-Block mechanic, encouraging players to weave a traditionally defensive ability into their Attacker loop. Scream’s matchup spread across all game modes so far has been positive and on target, proving to be an effective Attacker against a large group of potent Tech Defenders, and more. Defensively, Scream’s threats were designed to be dangerous but manageable with most forms of Mystic Buff control, as well as other traditional Auto-Block counters, and we’re happy to see where she’s landed as a Defender. No changes incoming for Scream!

Jack O'Lantern

Jack O'Lantern had some high-profile Mutant Defenders in his sights with his unique set of damaging effects and utility. On release, we saw Jack immediately thrown into the fire with high Attacker usage in both Battlegrounds and Alliance War, with strong performances to match. His ability to comfortably attack into Onslaught and Dust is on target, and we’re happy to see his performance hold over multiple seasons at a healthy clip. Jack’s Bag of Tricks consists of mainly Attacker-focused abilities, which is reflected in Jack’s minimal impact as a Defender so far. Overall, we’re happy with how Jack has landed, and won’t be making any changes!

What’s Next

Remember BATCH UPDATES? We’re excited to announce the first group of Champions receiving an update will be Patriot, Yondu, and M.O.D.O.K! You can expect details for each of them in the coming months, and their update to go live with the August build!

Additionally, you could expect communication about DAZZLER and SPIRAL’s Balance Review toward the middle of April!
