Scammers using the gifting system

I am receiving gifts from supposed members that are called “friendly signals“. They say they ping my physical location. After doing a little research, this does not look like an official part of the game. Anyone seeing this?

This is part of an in-game event. This is not a scam, and the language, while colorful, does not indicate any actual security issue.
