It feels like I'm in the minority as to this news.
Now don't get me wrong, not moving to 8s and instead having endless progression on our 7s would be a huge W for the players imo.
But this new system isn't quite that from what I can tell.
Obviously the biggest issue is that Kabam is ascension-locking all of our current champs and guaranteeing ascension for all of the new champs, and this is happening this spring, so even before we exhaust 7R5s and 7R6s progression.
Basically, every champ we have invested in up to this point is going to become prematurely obsolete in favor of new champs.
That $1k someone spent to get Red Guardian or Torch or Weapon X, well they'll be artificially nerfed so that you have incentive to keep spending and grinding for new ascendible champs.
And again, this is happening much sooner than if we had proceeded to 8s in due course. That trajectory would've kept our current 7s viable for several more years (2 years for 7R5s and 7R6s and then 3 years until 8R3s came out and exceeded 7R6s in power).
Secondly, just look at how much more random resources this ascension program involves:

You need not only the Dust, but champ specific ticket, and also a bunch of class specific tokens or whatever they are. And then you also have whatever this is:

Now I get that this is probably a great way to milk the big spenders out there, just give them access to more exclusive power but also make it extra complicated with extra assets to sell, so part of me hopes this new structure is profitable and keeps the game successful. But personally, it is scary and possibly too much for me.
