Torch Vs. R5

I'm in a bit of a conundrum. Like most people, I'd love a new, spicy Torch. However, part of me feels like gaining my first R5 would be better for my overall progress. Let's be honest. The Torch is rare, but he's likely going to be a common ban in BGs.
I'm stumped. Any suggestions? I feel pulled in both directions.

As a 7* torch owner, I cannot recall a single time he has been banned in BGs.

Use that info wisely.

I think Elder sooner rather than later is going to be better overall value than Torch right now. We've lived without him for a year, and there are so many champs in the game that, while he is great, there really aren't any moments where he is a must, and only so many where he is the best. If it's your first R5, and you don't have any other prospects of getting #3 anytime soon, then I'd lean that way like 60/40.

Are you planning on doing 9.4 and carinas?

Because those alone give you 2 r5's.

You are guaranteed to get rank up resources, but when and where you'll get a free torch again is up in the air. I would rather get the champ now than miss him later when I need him

What are you doing? Some content that requires one specific champ?

One champ vs ranking up multiple is a no brainer for me.

I'm about a couple T5A towards my first, that's the deciding factor for me. I'd love Torch, but again...the amount I'd actually use him compared to the time it's going to take me to get the Alpha. Honestly, it could go either way for me.

It's one of those situations I just need to make a decision and pull the trigger.

I only need a quarter t5a until my first rank 5, so with 9.4 and Carina's, I'll become elder day 1, so I'm going Torch. For you, it depends on whether you think getting elder soon is worth it or not.

I bought the rank 5 mats and took serpent to rank 5. With him I will be able to get the rank 5 gem from Carinas and act 9 exploration. Unless you are pushing high in BGs, torch is super overrated

But the reality is, this isn't really going to get you Elder any sooner. You need 3 T5 Alphas in order to take a champ up to Rank 5, and you need three Rank 5 champions to get Elder.

This event is only going to be able to net you half of a T5A unless you spend more money.

It's much more reliable and consistent to complete content like 9.4 and Colosseum, and if you're skilled enough all 6 Carina's. But if you're not enough to do all 6 Carina's, and say you're only getting them from 9.4 and Colosseum, that's only getting you two of the three required R5's for Elder. An additional half of an Alpha isn't going to be helpful for the majority of accounts, unless they already have 2.5 of them from other sources, in which case yes, take it to get you to Elder right away, otherwise it's still going to take you months of other content to get the required materials.

There's also the Prestige. The more it goes up, the more Frags you get from EQ. So it isn't a total waste.

I am facing the same conundrum myself, but I am leaning towards getting Torch. One good thing about him is that he doesn't need the dupe and he is still a great attacker. However, an argument could also be made that you wouldn't miss much not having him in the roster.
