AI activating special before end of my combo

I have posted this the last time I experienced this but haven't got an answer yet.
I was fighting on node 31 in AW, against a duped 4 star rank 5 Dormammu. My champ was a 5 star rank 4 Stark Spiderman, unduped.
Dormammu had 2 full bars of power, and I was giving him a sequence of hits, planning to give him my sp1 at the end and then land a heavy. But during my combo, he activated his sp2.
I am using an iphone 8 plus, with iOS 11.2.2
