Alliance War - Points and War Rating Deductions
So my alliance just finished up a war against one of the previously ranked Master alliances. The group we faced was affected by the recent bans and war rating/point deductions completed earlier this week. Needless to say, it was a complete CF.
The war that just ended for us resulted in a loss after having won 5 wars in a row and climbing up to Platinum 2. The alliance who was once ranked in the master tier ended the match with less than 15 deaths (typically for those in that bracket). Our group on the other hand ended with over 100 deaths just trying to clear their multiple R5 defenders. When we are matched with people in our "actual" bracket the death total is normally around 30-50 max, and the match-ups are balanced equally on both sides!
While I understand and agree with the idea of punishing those that have violated the games TOCs, I feel compelled to point out the fact that reducing a master or platinum 1 rank alliance war rating by +/-300 pts actually punishes those that have to face a previously higher ranked alliance.
A war rating deduction hurts the less skilled alliances more then it hurts those that had the war rating deduction. The alliances which received the deduction will likely reform and go on a win streak for the remainder of the season, making up the points removed and still ending in Platinum 1 or Master. These groups often are made of the best and most advanced rosters resulting in them bulldozing all of the weaker alliances that they are now facing. The points earned from winning the remaining wars is more then enough to make up for the points that you removed. On the other hand, it forces the groups that they face to take drastically less points for the loss against an alliance that had no business in that war rating/tier.
If you plan to continue with this style of correction, you need to ensure that alliances who abide by the TOCs are not subject to an unwanted throttling by a group that obviously should not be playing against Platinum 2 or 3 alliances with a 2600, or less, war rating.
One suggestion would be to make those alliances that received the reductions face one another. This will allow them to face off against those that also broke the rules to determine which of those groups actually should move back to the top of the brackets vs those that choose to break the TOCs to inflate themselves above their actual ability.
If the ability does not exist to group these alliances into a smaller pool of matchmaking, then the alliances should only receive a point deduction and not a war rating deduction. This will force the groups that received the point deductions the opportunity to face off against the groups at their current rating to prove themselves as a platinum 1 or master alliance.
