New Valiant offer kind of a slap in the face

I was gifted a $50 iTunes gift card for Christmas early because they saw the banquet bundle was about to expire. Putting the value of the crystals aside, it would get me some milestones I wanted to hit and it wasn’t like it was my own money anyway so I bought the 10 superior banquet crystals (of course didn’t get anything good).

Now there’s a new bundle on the summoner’s market for the exact same price and contents except it also includes a key for the rebalanced champs.

Literally a complete slap in the face. So I’m just missing out on a key because someone was nice enough to give me a gift card early so I can hit some milestones before the bundle expires?

Agreed. If the bundle was majorly different, I could understand, but the fact it contains the same 10 Banquet Crystals AND a Key means it's majorly more valuable than the previous. If it was priced higher, I'd understand, but this is stupid.

OP, I feel for you, but this is not a slap in the face. It’s a sale. Stuff goes on sale all the time, and while it sucks to be the person who bought something right before it goes on sale, it is not a personal insult to that person. And I also bought one of those original bundles, so I definitely feel your pain.

I fail to see why the Banquet Sale couldn't go up when the Banquet started though. If we'd have known about these beforehand, many of us wouldn't have bought the previous £50 bundles. Releasing these halfway through to try and entice people to contribute to the Realm event is just unfair on everyone that already spent.

There was no forum post either, so lack of communication is the real issue here.

They had same offer last year, 50$ for 10 crystals and a 7* of the banquet champs. Shoulda expected it again this year.

Why can’t the banquet sale go up in March? Why can’t we have Cyber Monday in September? It’s all marketing. It isn’t fair, it isn’t about making sure everybody is informed, it’s about offering a thing for a price and if people buy it, you’ve done your job. If you later offer a different thing for the same price, that doesn’t make it a scam or an insult, it’s just doing business. Does it suck? Yeah! But it’s also the nature of the beast.

You know, normally I’m on the side of thinking the community is being unreasonable. I even thought that about the banquet crystals this year. It’s a low chance to get great rewards, but that’s always how it is. The only thing about this event that I really thought needed balanced were the milestones and contribution points (at least for valiant, idk about the others), but it honestly just wasn’t a big enough deal to even comment on. I don’t know how my post has managed to attract so many kabam defenders compared to some of the other posts I’m seeing on this topic. Had I noticed other people saying the same thing, I wouldn’t have even bothered to make a post.

However, I’m seeing some rather ridiculous arguments in defense of kabam on this one. Whether, “it was like this last year” (and to be fair not everybody played this event last year) or “it’s the nature of the beast”, it doesn’t make it any less slimy. I expected unit deals to pop up, and I didn’t sweat missing out on those. It just feels lame that they release an intentionally worse deal at the start of banquet, then improve it midway through the event, after people already bought it. It would have been way less slimy to just hold off on all the bundles until the same day. Implying that this is your only chance to get those 10 banquet crystals, and then poof they are gone, while knowing that you are dishing out a better deal 1 second after it expires is just lame. It’s preying on the fear of missing out, which I guess most games do these days, but that doesn’t make it any less wrong.

The key was the main milestone I wanted to hit (in the alliance event, I’m not even close on the solo or realm).

Forgive me for being upset at about how things are. I really only want what’s best for the game and the relationship between the community and developers. As a community member who rarely speaks out about this kind of stuff, I’m just trying to express what I think most of the community agrees on: this shouldn’t have happened the way it did.

Edit: for the record I have played this game since launch (off and on for a few years, but a lot for the first few years, and a lot the last few years). I’ve hardly found community outrage worth contributing to in that time. This was an exception.

The issue is, with the way it was described in game, it never mentioned it would be in these bundles, only the odins.

Been through what uve been through.
Looooonng ago when 5* was top and they had just introduced Rogue, I didn't know any better cause I was new to game. Bought an 'all fathers odin' hoping to get my Rogue. Never got her and next day was July 4th sale 🤣

Boy was I upset 😡

Wrote email to kabam stating my displeasure and threatening to quit this game if I didn't get a free 5* Rogue. Many yrs later, here I am still.
Just wiser.

Something to consider is that the sentiment shared on the forums and in discord isn't necessarily reflective of the success of the event. Feedback is good and important, but they're gonna make the decisions that make the most financial sense. Frankly, this event is probably highly successful from a financial standpoint and thus falls into the category of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."

I'm not gonna hold my breath for things to change.

You should call whoever gave you the gift and cuss him/her out for not waiting until monday to give you the gift... Some people I swear...

They did the same thing last year with the 50 dollars ggc bundle. They'll do it again next year too. Kabam cares only about making more money. It's a less than respectable business practice. Im sorry they got you with it this year. You can submit a ticket if you like, no one I know who did last year was given the extra rewards though:/

Because there's no difference between wanting banquet offers coming out in march and wanting the exclusive banquet offers to all come out at the same time, or at least not after one offer has expired with zero indication it'll come back afterwards beyond "it probably will because it did last year" 🙄

That's the thing, there's ALWAYS a possibility of a new sale at a store days after you purchase something.

Does it suck when you buy something full price, and it goes on sale a few days later? Absolutely it does.
But when it happens, I'm not at the doors of the store screaming bloody murder, either.
