Am I Crazy to use a 7 star Awakening Gem on Luke Cage over Thing and Photon?

I have a 7 star Awakening Gem and 140 signature stones.

I’m a moderately skilled endgame player (all story content explored, I consistently make the Victory Track in BGs, and I don’t play AW or AQ anymore).

I’ve heard Photon’s awakening is very but does it change her characteristics to the same extent as Thing or Luke?

I’m considering Luke to tank special 3s. I’ve considered Thing (underrated attacker and good defender but he has a lot of counters now).

Is the smart move Photon (dual use champion)? Should I not overthinku it?

    If you want a top-flight attacker, go for Luke. He’s a beast for sure. But he can only play offense.

    Not crazy at all, especially if you play BGs because then you can be super aggressive. I’d save the stones for someone else though.

    The good thing about most top science champs like Photon, Hulk, Titania, Nefaria, Spam, Luke is that they are already very good unawakened. The awakening is nice to have, sometimes for defensive reasons but most are just good to go right off the bat.

    I love my R3 Nuke Cage, and he is one of my top two most wanted awakenings right now, but even with that I’d probably awaken Photon and invest the sigs in her vs him. Her awakening helps her not only become a much tougher defender, but it also helps her on offense as well -for example pretty much shutting down Cow. His awakening is great for BGs and in particular helps him be a really good Serpent counter (as you don’t have to worry about catching and SP3 during his death immunity phase), but doesn’t do much else for him beyond that.

    That said, if Luke is one of your favorite champs, you really prioritize BGs, and if you don’t have some good Serpent counters, then go for it. Just don’t waste the sigs on him.
