ALLIANCE WAR SEASON 58 ANNOUNCEMENT

Following the livestream, I learned about alliance war season 58 structure with the new map with only 10 defenders and every player in each bg will take 1 of these, with a team of 2 champs allowed. Basically this is absolutely annihilating what's fun about aw because there's 0 planning for this, 0 team effort. Just a guy taking down a fight individually. I understand this is meant to be an experiment for this one season, but this is the worst idea ever. What's the point of this exactly? Can we please not do this?

First of all yeah I'm playing tier 1 war and that's the game mode I enjoy the most.
Second thing: since they add radiance to aw I think many people will care about it because the rewards are good. At the same time this change is really bad for people who actually enjoy aw as it is.

Horrible idea, the only change we need is updating aw potions and making it cheaper

That change makes no sense, AW is the only fun game mode for many of us who play at tier 1. With that change there's no reason to to keep engaged with the game. Terrible idea.

the required changes would be 2 in my opinion:

1) update health potions to adjust for bigger health pools from attackers (we have r4 attackers now!)
2) since they increased health pools for defenders and made nodes more challenging, since they nerfed power back boosts... all with the end result of fights taking longer, they should extend grey boosts durations. Because you can't waste 1 grey boost for each fight. You run out of those so early in the season and you need to spend a lot of units to make up for it. I would say 4-5 minutes for grey boosts is good enough duration to cover 2-3 fights. If you take 1 fight and it lasts 2 mins 40 seconds you need to reboost for next fight because the time it takes to load the map and move to next fight you have like 10 seconds left and if you go in like that the boost expires during loading time. So in general this is a pain point I would address to make war better.

It also completely negates the use of any rosters people built up over time, now those are just for BGs which we learned was not the "main focus". If you got a decent roster there's now no real reason to keep spending or upgrading multiple champs unless you grind BGs.

Running a new map for one season only? That’s a bold move with how well new maps have worked in the past. Takes at least a season for bugs to get worked out.

I guess we’ll be facing the 10 worst meta defenders on horrible nodes and massive health pools.
I mean let’s wait and see before making a judgement. But initial thoughts are, this is more likely to be awful than an improvement over current.

Also since there's 10 fights you need 10 people to always play in each BG. That means no backup. It means if someone has an emergency and can't join for one war you lose.

Granted it's 2 team slots so you could have someone take 2 fights? Unless there's some requirement that I missed out on.

But overall not happy with this at all. It just seems like it will be the same 10 fights with the same annoying defenders for an entire season. No thanks.

I imagine it'd be 10 separate paths because if it wasn't then just a few people could do all the fights while everyone else does nothing. And I don't think that's kabam's intention.

I dont post much on the forums. I play this game because I enjoy a lot high tier war. I want to express that I am extremely annoyed by the changes that have been announced. I hope the test doesnt even come out. I want a normal war season next season, with a new tactic. I am honestly thinking about stopping playing this game if war is touched.

That's a 2-person attack team, instead of usual 3 for AQ/AW (or 1 for Raids).

Another concern I have with this is how it will be scored and laid out. Depending on how they tune the nodes, map and health values, and assuming a similar score structure to current war, I can see two scenarios happening:

1. No one drops any deaths, so wins are almost always determined based on time. This essentially turns it in the direction of a group BGs match where even a single death or disconnect on a fight screws the alliance over, which is much more stressful than before since there are significantly less fights and thus less possibilities for death.

2. The fights are tuned to encourage deaths, which creates a difficult balance between preventing scenario 1 and preventing niche, unenjoyable fights which cause a lot of item usage and frustration with no one to help you out if everyone needs to take 1 fight each.

Again, this is preliminary and I could be completely wrong about this, but I do hope kabam has taken this into consideration.

this is the actual forum post with the changes and it's even worse than what I imagined. This is aw turned into raids. We do have raids as a game mode. Alliance war and alliance raids are 2 different things. Why did they decide to make this??? Who thinks this is a good idea??? I'm at loss for words here

I suspect that the recent data tell them that participation hasn’t improved, despite the better rewards and the (hypothetical) interest that the new map was supposed to create. This feels like a way to minimize the planning, the coordination, etc. A small minority of players love that stuff but the vast majority probably don’t or just don’t want to put in the time required.

Some of the player base actually loves alliance war. This is a huge kick in the nuts to that part of the community. You want people to be engaged in the mode? Make it less expensive and more rewarding even for lower tiers and people will decide to play more. As simple as that.

look we already have raids this is like raids replacing war and it makes 0 sense. I wouldn't care for this even if it was optional

If there was one thing people didn’t want to change drastically it was aw. But they went and did it anyway. I don’t remember them asking for input either. Even if it is one season thats one season wasted when I could be playing the game mode that I came to love. If you're gonna do this. Make it separate for testing. Don’t wipe a whole season of aw for something completely untested because people enjoy aw as it is now.

First off, I'm a huge fan of the theme going here...

As a former competitive Master AW player, to where I'm more casually competing in Tier 2 for a P2 spot, I like the idea of the change for a few reasons.

1. I've never been a fan of AW fights getting nuked thru like an arena fight. While there may not be a ton of complexity to this structure, having someone last more than 30 seconds in a war fight and have to really play out the fight, bait/evade/counter multi-specials, etc - this is more fun and telling to me personally.

2. I've also never been a fan of having an officer spend an hour, several hours... planning for the team for a competitive war. I've been on both sides and my opinion a huge waste of that person's personal time. Yes, at times it's fun to strategize and come out on top. Yet putting more time into 'playing' the game or doing something else...👌🏼
Having only 1 fight per member helps with this. Sure, will there still be team members that need to be spoon fed who to use, how to take the fight, do I need a synergy etc... absolutely - but I think this minimizes it greatly.

3. AW even with the recently updated nodes a few seasons ago... it's really stale in my opinion. I was greatly disappointed when the map/node updates was so minimal. Doing something fresh/new, while maybe not perfect for all, it just brings some fresh air to the game mode that I'm welcome to try out, even if just for a season.

Agreed and plus the more I think about it the more the whole idea sucks. So lets say in one bg a person has rank 4 enchantress and rank 4 bullseye and hes the one placing those. Now with this bs season he can only place one. So another person in same bg needs to make a duplicate of that r4 defender to be able to place a rank 4 of that champ. And then what? Season after that, you are back to usual thing and that defensive rank up is an absolute waste of resources. Not to mention people will catch up to what the best combinations are between defender and nodes and then u get 12 wars all the same. Like serpent on same node, bullseye on same node and so on. So yay for that we rejuvenate the game mode by flattening it to 12 same wars in a month. Every war the same guy takes the same defender on same node. What a great fun development. Take away all the complexity and the planning, leave the chore and the waste of resources that go into playing an annoyingly long and dragged out fight 12 times in a row. And pray you dont time out or you need to use 2+ same grey boosts each war. Get your units and wallets ready cause its gonna be expensive
