Why not send 10 etherion in the mail to Valiants?

We need 10 etherion to access Elder difficulty, right? What possible engineering hiccup stops sending 10 etherion to all Valiants in the mail each month? Problem solved. We can skip classic. No special engineering needed.

Just delete stupidass classic difficulty from the game. Elder EQ being a harder crucible where we can't heal is bad enough and to make it even worse, we have to play through classic difficulty every time. It's actually stupid.

Some of ways around it.

Keep it unlocked and have it so your first fight is rarity locked at 7r3
Give variants a valiant token and have that as the entry requirement which is not consumed on entry to futureproof it for later months

Isn't the elder switch based on completion of Classic and not etherium points though?

How tangled is their code that prevemts them from doing a seemingly simple fix?

Yes. You can fully explore the first few chapters and not unlock Elder until you have a full completion run thru everything.

@Kabam (Osaurus) Rex you said you guys missed the mark in September which itself is a wild understatement Kabam pissed off the vast majority of its player base and this recent post is doing nothing to help calm that at all. Saying you guys read all of our feedback okay? and then continue to not listen to what were suggesting literally whatsoever. we made it crystal clear for you and you still proceeded to not listen. Honestly its exhausting how much the community has to fight on all your pro kabam anti-player changes. 3 months to remove classic difficulty also pathetic.

Do better! stop making such terrible decisions. Everyone at kabam that handles communication with the player base needs to vastly improve. here's a thought you want to make a major change in the game how about you put in a poll? but then you would need three months everytime you needed to make a poll so who knows 😮‍💨

What probably makes this complicated is the mechanics of EQ are not as simple as it might first appear. Here’s what is actually happening when you run Classic and then Elder.

Classic is, by itself, a normal EQ-style map. There are six maps each with several paths (three for the first two, four for the second two, and five paths each for the last two maps). They unlock as you expect: completing one unlocks the next one. Typically, you would expect an Elder player to do one path from each map, six paths total, to unlock Elder, then do six paths of Elder.

But how does that translate to maximum milestones? You might think that Elder paths just grant more Ehterion, but that doesn’t work. Suppose each Elder path granted four Etherion. Then you’d get six from Classic completion, then 24 total from six Elder paths, for a total of 30 Etherion. Done. But now suppose someone fully explore Classic. They’d have 24 Etherion. Now, they do two paths of Elder and they get 32 Etherion - 24 + 4 + 4 - and they get full Elder rewards, without actually doing four of the Elder paths (including arguably the harder ones that include the more recent champs). That’s not how it works.

Each Classic path contains one Etherion per path. Each Classic map has a corresponding Elder map. When you do the Elder map, you get one Etherion for completion plus completing that Elder path autoexplores the corresponding Classic path. So if you do Elder path one, assuming you only did one path on Classic map 1, you will get one Etherion, plus when it autoexplores Classic map 1 you will pick up the remaining two Etherion that is on that map. So you’d get the last two you left behind. This is how double dipping is prevented. Elder gives you any Classic Etherion you didn’t get initially, plus one. So the maximum you can get doing Elder is all of the Classic Etherion plus six. That’s 24 + 6 = 30. If you try to cheat the system by doing more Classic paths before doing Elder, Elder will still only give you the ones you didn’t get yet. And once you do an Elder path, you can’t go back and run the corresponding Classic maps for more Etherion.

This is probably bespoke EQ mechanics, meaning it is custom code to make Classic and Elder linked in this way, which also means altering its behavior requires code, not just data changes. Giving us Etherion will not unlock Elder. But it will allow players to get Elder rewards without doing all of Elder. Allowing us to do Elder directly is unlikely to be like flipping a switch, because it would be like allowing us to start Act 9 at 9.2.4. Moreover it might confuse the Elder map code if none of the Classic maps are actually unlocked and completed. The Elder code could easily go awry if it tries to auto-explore a Classic map that isn’t even unlocked yet. Without seeing the implementation, there might be significant things that need to be untangled. If they just decouple Classic from Elder they would have to test for corner cases like a player jumping straight to Elder, doing a few paths, then backtracking and trying to do Classic maps to finish off their Etherion requirements. The linkage is currently critical to ensuring the rewards are awarded correctly.

It is probably not the case that it will actually take six months to change this. It is more likely that actual engine code requires programmer resources that are deeply pipelined. They are working on other things that themselves have timeline dependencies and thus can’t just be bumped to work on this. Six months down the road might be the first most likely window of time this kind of thing can be scheduled.
