Ungodly/occult DOT effect champ

This is a “different” type of post but as a devout christian I’ve always seen the game for what it is and the lore behind the comics but for Dracula the champ developer literally stated that he designed Dracula’s DOT effect to last specifically the three numbers that represent the mark of the beast, so my question is what is the point in implementing this occultism into the game? I’ve played for years and spend more money than most but this to me is just something I’m not willing to overlook and will inevitably quit the game, it upsets me because I know for most people it’s just a dumb number but to me and my buddies it has an evil occult meaning bonded to it. Why can’t the devs know better and keep weird stuff like this out of the game? I respect the “woke” things implemented in the game why can’t religion/values of the players be respected? Does Dracula really need to have this number implemented into his kit? Why can’t a line be drawn for us people that are offended by this? Although I know there will be very few.

I wasn’t going to say anything but that was my question “ is it necessary?” This is a big game with lots of different people with different beliefs and I’d never expect anyone else ( game included) to cater to my personal beliefs. I also understand how likely it is to unintentionally offend people when you’re producing content for millions of people around the world. BUT this seems like it’s character “flavor” that adds little to the game and predictably would upset a decent number of people. Before a ton of people jump all over me for being overly sensitive I’m only saying I don’t think whatever it adds to the game is worth potentially upsetting some people. I doubt it was intentional and I can both understand how someone would think it’s no big deal while others would be upset. I know Mephisto literally has a “soul stealing” ability and we have the Hood ect. I’m honestly not interested in denouncing anybody or arguing over every possible thing that could upset some people. I’m simply saying you could have Dracula in all his bloodsucking evil persona without this ability description that predictably might bother some people. Honestly I wasn’t going to say anything and I’m bracing myself for the backlash this will provoke. But I feel like OP makes a fair point with constructive feedback the game team should keep in mind for the future.

That is funny and I’m sure I’ll wish I had. I just had a feeling OP was going to take some heat for what I thought was a fair comment that the description wasn’t necessary for the character and predictably would upset some people.But I want to make clear I’m not suggesting anything beyond that. I wouldn’t ( and didn’t) draw the comparison with whatever they were referring to by “woke.” I really was trying to make a very narrow point empathizing with how the description unnecessarily created tension with some folks. But I’m sure I’ll regret making what I hoped was a post considering OPs feelings not denigrating anyone else’s.Im sure that nuance will be understood and respected here on the internet 😂

Good for you for speaking up for your beliefs OP. I agree with some of the comments that a company creating a game built on decades of pop culture IP for a global audience might have an impossible job of threading the needle through the many objections that could arise from anyone’s personal beliefs.

This particular example is interesting, as I’m not aware of any connection between Dracula (canonical, novel-based) and the mark of the beast, the Antichrist of any other symbols in the book of revelations.

Maybe it comes from something in the comics? If not, it’s an oddly specific relationship for Kabam to pull out of thin air.

I totally agree, I think the dev team has done a great job at being inclusive of everyone but I think they really missed here and even overlooked the offense/disrespect it could generate to people of faith, I see a few comments being upset and it’s very weird because I’m not attacking anyone, just asking if something like that number is really necessary and offensive content can be avoided? Someone mentioned something about “weak” but I think a weak person folds and lets people walk over their faith and values. I think we can all respect each other but I don’t think any of us should have our value/beliefs offended, especially when in Christian faith and scripture that number has an extremely evil meaning behind it and you’re essentially brandishing the player with this number. I am outspoken about very few things but I will defend my faith and I would hope that the devs could possibly even look back into this and say you know what we missed the point with this, we didn’t mean to offend anyone with this and it’s not necessary and does not need to be added. @Kabam (Osaurus) Rex @KabamDORK @KabamPinwheel

Dracula represents both Christians and paganism (as Vlad the Impaler was a member of the Order of the Dragon.) Plus he’s a Halloween character so yes it’s very important to have the duality of both sides of him. Hence why he is literally known as the Prince of Darkness/Dark Lord. It’s also why it’s important to also have necessary counters in the game where you will be able to exact your own form of punishment or what not. To each there own but let’s not draw the line at Dracula when Mephisto is LITERALLY already in the game. The Mark of the Beast can also be interpreted as “616” (both relating to the tyrant nero) which is a very important number to the Marvel universe in general. Just as an fyi

finally Dracula’s powers are partially based on his connection to the Darkhold itself which I don’t think needs any additional context.

@Capricious I totally agree and understand this but within marvel comics there is no correlation within the comics between the mark of the beast and Dracula and the other number you mentioned was done as a sort of mockery on the entire genre itself at the time, the character dev that added this did it in a weird way and I was excited for Dracula but this weird addition to him just doesn’t make sense and is not what Dracula is within the comics, I feel he’d be great without this whole non existent connection to him and personally Mephisto is just that a marvel character so that’s why I don’t think it really attacks anybody’s faith or religion

I respect where your coming from. But there are still connections that makes this make sense as a bit of a joke. In Dracula’s animated movie from 1980 he actually battles against Satan who in this story line is the entity that bestowed him with vampirisim. Dracula is actually a slave trrying to break free and meets a woman who is bestowed with holy powers. They have a child that is literally a miracle from God meant to destroy Dracula

Even in Blade Trinity. Dracula is apparently the warrior Gilgamesh. Once again he is actually depicted as being a Christian and wears a cross on his chest, he speaks highly of Jesus and mentions being at his crucifixion (although the statement is left ambiguous as to what that fully entailed)

I’d love for you to explain a bit more if you are, because I just don’t understand. I genuinely want to understand why it upsets you so much. In the same way some people are offended by LGBT champs in the game, like why? It’s just a game, the intent is not to offend, it’s just to have fun.

666 as a number is just a bit of fun flavour text. Take it as face value, it’s just supposed to be a fun little quirk the designer implemented.

Ima Christian myself but I only realised the 666 thing now because of this post. The thing is is that Dracula is meant to be evil, a direct contrast to humanity. I thought it was just lore accurate as a representative of the devil. It is very occultish I have to admit but I don't think that mcoc itself is advocating for devil worship I just think that Dracula is literally meant to be the embodiment of Satan in this game. It's a bit off putting but I really hope that it's just meant to be a reference not an indicator of devil worship.
