What's the difference between having only new 7 stars ascendable and releasing 8 stars???

Feel like I'm missing something. They said they don't plan to release 8 stars because they want to respect our roster, but they also want to be able to change the meta the same way, so only new 7 stars will be ascendable.

So, what's the difference? Isn't that the exact same thing? Basically "new" 7 stars are 8 stars, and all 7 stars that came out before Lizard are just 7 stars. My 7 star Knull is obsolete because he's not ascendable.

Am I understanding this correctly? This is 8 stars with more steps? You have to pull a new 7 star AND pull the ascension materials for it, then it's basically an 8 star.

This seems like a downgrade, not an upgrade. Please correct me if I'm missing something here.

New 7 stars will automatically be ascendable. Existing 7 stars will also be ascendable but the process of who and when will be controlled like the release cadence of 7* has been.

I think the biggest difference is that ascension is a slower increase in power compared to a whole star level. You might be able to ascend a champion, and they'll be better than before, but it doesn't make all the other 7 stars obsolete. They're still relatively similar until you get higher in the ascension ranks.

With 11 ascension ranks they have a lot of room to control the scaling in comparison to non-ascended 7 stars.

Releasing 8* resets champion acquisition while ascending 7* gives our rosters more staying power for the future. I don't want to go through more gatekeeping of good champs in the future with a new star rarity.

A few f2p or occasional spender have one or two 7* at rank4 sig200 (not everyone has more than 3 or 4 or 5) only whales have 30 or more 7* champions at rank4 with 50% to 70% at sig200..

It might be easier to ascend the 7* which we have than starting the chase for 8* champion.. also have to consider rank2 or rank3 resource materials.. duping the same 8* champion and 8* sig stones to sig200 one will be near impossible..

I'm Honesty glad 8* champion are not upon us yet.. I see the 7* champion have more life and probably two or three more years.. then maybe 8* after the fourth, likely in 2029

I am actually with OP on this one. As far as I have understood the existing 7 stars "are not ascendable". And even if some of the older champs will be released as such you ll still have to pull the "new" ascendable version of this champion and start to rank him from the scratch. The only positive compared to "genuine 8 stars" I see is no need to acquire 8 star sig stones.

So without the specific Ascension token, any player can rank up/ascend any champs they want, by collecting relatively "generic" rank up materials.

However with this token, players can only upgrade a champ that Kabam let you.

For example you might love Jugg, but if Kabam think he is too much to be ascended then they just won't release his token. Therfore control your decision on who you can rank.

You can only Ascend who Kabam let you ascend not who you want to ascent. I would consider that is micromanaging
