Titan Selector - Misleading?

I cannot be the only one who thought that receiving a “Titan Selector” meant we would receive a… well… Titan Selector. Receiving a selector with the option for a Titan Crystal feels quite misleading, especially since one had to tune-in for 12 hours. Otherwise awesome Summoners Fest streams so far!

Maybe something like Progression Crystal Selector, with a Titan crystal as the picture to show the highest level of rewards? Although if you wanted to convey the highest reward level through the name in case people can’t see the picture, I’m not really sure how you could fit that in a way that’s accurate and short enough for the character limit.

I think ‘Titan progression selector’ is probably the most accurate title for the drop within the text limit you have.

How about you guys just start being accountable for the constant mistakes?

This wasn’t the first time there was a “selector” issue… this year.

Some responsibility would go a long way, and you guys should take it on the chin. And perhaps doing so will prevent this from happening in the future.

Sure man. I get it you're upset over the shortfalls we've experienced lately, but what exactly about this post do you find is not taking accountability for what happened here? What is accountable for this situation to you and what exactly are you expecting from it?

Further, there are many livestreams, announcements, messages, dev diaries and the like that clearly break down the issues many of you face from a responsibility and accountability standpoint. @Kabam (Osaurus) Rex has many times been the face of such messaging and his chin is very much right there taking it ( albeit hidden by a majestic beard ).

Again, I get people can be frustrated by things that happen in this game. This is a name for a FREE and VALUABLE reward, that probably could have used a better name. But what are we really doing here?

I mean, it IS a bit misleading.
I don't at all believe it was done in bad faith, I absolutely trust that it was in no way malicious or intentional.

But the name of the drop was ambiguous enough that when I spoke to people about this - no-one could actually agree on what they thought it was.

I think it was probably just an oversight.
Actually, someone else pointed out a pretty interesting thing and crafted a playful theory.

Please note this was not serious and is in no-way confirmed or even suggested I'm only sharing it to show how something like this can happen and be completely innocuous.

Twitch has a 25 character limit for things like this correct?

So let's say the drop was originally named "Titan Crystal Progression Selector"

That's more then 10 characters over the limit. Can't drop the word Titan because you want that draw and it would still be over the limit. 'Progression' is the only thing there you could drop, hit the limit and still get some of the message across - it's a selector with a Titan Crystal!

Innocent and easily overlooked at how that also completely changes the context of what people would expect when they see the new name for the drop.

Once again - I'm not saying this is what happened, I'm just saying it's easy to see how something like this could happen and end up misleading people.

It's still a fantastic drop item, I get why some people are a little upset though because they created an expectation of what the prize was and came to realize the prize was something else.

Edited to add: I actually replied to your post directly and didn't read the full thread, so I audibly laughed out loud when I got to Dave's post and saw that the above is almost exactly what happened. That's kind of awesome.

Dave, I think I would have named it: Progression Based Selector - but that doesn't quite have the hook. You kind of want 'Titan' in there.

The name Titan selector is misleading but guys.. watching a kabam live feed for 12hrs.. [note: some just put twitch kabam live stream on and let it play in the background while they did other stuff; they come back] to get 7* generic rank 1to2, rebirth crystals, 7* shards, and a Titan Crystal [although it's summoner progression level based rewards] it's the easiest way to get rewards without actually playing everest content, battleground, event quest.

some of y'all need to learn to chill and not be entitled to everything, Kabam could have just given rebirth crystal and title and I would have watch.. Sad Lagacy was not able to reach the finals.. Andrew did awesome but didn't win either.. Liam did solid effort to edge out Tilapia for the belt..

I read a whole lot of summoners complaining about whales having each and every champion at high rarity, rank, and max sig level.

Kabam MCOC does not run ads, it is a gaming business that operates with earnings from people spending money on the game.. without the whales to help pay for MCoC to stay afloat.. the games 🎮 will end.

Just enjoy the game, any freebies is great.. even if its only a 7* champion crystal.. its still free. Complaining about getting a FREE Titan Crystal.. 🙄 😒 😴 😏 😐

Dork, I’m exhausted with the game. I’m exhausted with the AI. I’m exhausted with the modders. I’m exhausted that I’ve opened 15 Titans, 4 Nexus’, and still no Karolina.

I’m exhausted with so many decisions as of late.

I’m exhausted that so much is asked of me, but I feel no reciprocation. By that, I gotta download the things, watch the things, play the things, read the things. And in a month, essentially, you expect me to do all of that AND pay $1,000-$1,200.

And when I sit down, ready to spend an entire weekend tending to a stream I don’t necessarily want to watch - solely because I have my mouth set on finally getting Karolina - when I come to find there is yet another technicality, it’s infuriating.

Because, I’m sorry, but a fifth Gentle dupe is not a valuable reward for me. And not worth 12 hours of my time.

And this is all exacerbated by the game’s woes as of late. Because I can’t be responsible for my behavior and yours.

There is no latitude if I miss a milestone deadline. If I miss a stream. If I miss a spending event. If I forget a node or a component to a boss’ kit. That’s the standard you guys set, but that is not the standard in the experience provided.

Humans make mistakes. I messed up at work today, too.

But at some point, apologies and disappointment aren’t sufficient solutions. Especially with the cutthroat expectations you have of your community. Somehow, you guys have to start providing the rewards as they are interpreted, particularly when this isn’t the first “selector” terminology mix-up. And certainly when you guys can acknowledge the issue is not the fault of the community.

Because I can’t get those 12 hours back. Yet you guys can still go back to Netmarble with the viewership numbers, accepting their praise. No harm, no foul, no real attempt to reconcile. And that’s not accountability.

Yes it can be misleading but it's not intentional from Kabam I believe

I did think players will think differently when I first saw the name without reading discord messages, not everyone check discord

Paragons thought they getting full titan crystal

Valiants thought they get to choose from the titan pool

But it's free stuff for turning on 2 livestreams on my phone for 12 hours, no phone battery can last the full 8 hours livestream per day, I had to switch to another phone while I charge the first phone

And I don't complain about free stuff either but I do understand why players thought differently and felt mislead

Hey the burgers always look more awesome in advertisements than the actual product I get and I paid for the food so I kinda don't feel so strongly about this since this is how the world works (always read the small print)

rng is still rng.. sometimes you only get a champion after you rank5 sig200 and ascend the 6* rarity before you pull them as a 7* champion.. not sure you noticed that sometimes after you use an awaken gem on a champion that you pull them afterwards.

It is what it is.. play the champion as a 6* rarity and familiarize yourself with their particular playstyle as much as you can.. maybe you will get them during the Titan Crystal pool changeover on December.

Some summoners immediately sig200 the champion who are still in Titan Crystal pool and get annoyed when they pull them.. rng happens.. it is a risk to sig200 the champion.. if you plan to open multiple Titan Crystals, just have the champions at sig160 or sig180 but it's still a risk to pull that champion out of the Titan Crystal opening.

I still haven't pull Karolina Dean, Jean Grey, Cyclops Blue, Arnim Zola, and Falcon Joaquin Torres (who might be good after his buff). am I up in arms? not really, playing the game for fun.

who knows you might pull a better champion than her this December or pull her multiple times.. would you complain if you pull her 4 out of 5 Titan Crystal/s?

I personally don't have an issue with the way Kabam worded it. In the Twitch Drops it's clearly called a 'Titan Selector', and that's exactly what we got. A selector where Valiants, Thronebreakers and Paragons had a choice to select one of two Titan related rewards. It did not say 'Titan Nexus' or anything to indicate we could choose any champ we wanted from the Titan pool.

We got a FREE Titan Crystal for literally just putting the livestream on in the background for 12 hours, and all people can do is complain.

I pulled High Evolutionary from the Titan (the Prestige king), and from the Rebirth crystals alone I got: 2,000 7* Titan shards, 31,500 T7B fragments, 6 Valiant crystals, 2 fully formed T6CC, 2 fully formed T6B, a bunch of revives and potions… I repeat… for FREE!

This is not an L from Kabam as far as I'm concerned.

It wasn't free. Kabam got time logged on their twitch channel from a lot of people. If it were free it wouldn't have required logging into twitch, it would have automatically been gifted via in game email.

It may not have cost much, but it wasn't free. Stop saying it was.

It was also not a titan selector. Kabam got what they wanted out of it (twitch views) and gave out a product of lower quality than what was advertised. Compensation isn't an unreasonable request. The "aw shucks, hindsight is 20/20, good lesson for next time" response is NOT owning the mistake. I appreciate the acknowledgement of the mistake, but stopping there doesn't mean much. Especially when Kabam seems to have a hard time learning lessons.

So by that logic, every Twitch drop from any game ever made isn’t free because the company gets views? Come on. Watching a stream isn’t payment. Kabam gave out solid rewards for doing next to nothing. If people expected a full-blown “choose your Titan champ” crystal, that’s on how they interpreted the title, not what Kabam promised. I think some people just set their expectations too high. Sometimes it’s okay to just take the win.

Correct. They aren't free. Thats why people who dont log into the stream dont get the rewards. You have to do something to get the rewards. That's the cost of it.

And people expected a titan selector because...that's what was advertised. Officially. By Kabam. Why is it unreasonable to expect them to deliver what they advertised? And since they admitted that they did not deliver what they advertised, why is it unreasonable to expect some sort of compensation?

I'm not saying comp should be a selector, but everything above is completely logical and completely reasonable.

i’d leave “Titan” out tbh.

“Progression selector” as a reward leaves no misinterpretations,.,and you just get to choose whatever the reward is in relation to your progression level or below.

I knew it wasn't going to be a nexus because that's what a nexus is. A selector gives you options for the reward, which is different from a nexus, which is why they label them differently.

If it doesn't say nexus, don't expect one.

They gave a FREE Crystal for people who watched the Live for 12 hours. You didn't even have to sit there the whole time, you could have left it on in the background. People thought it was going to be a Selector, something that would only be a Top Tier Reward by the game's standards. It was a Titan, still highly valuable.

They accepted responsibility because of how it might have been perceived. What the hell else do you want?

Your resentment towards the company needs to be studied.

As I've stated previously, creating an account, tying it to another account, scheduling to log-on, having a dedicated space, and keeping tabs of the hourly notifications for much of an entire waking weekend - Or, the bare minimum required as you state - Is quite the ask for a game that already requires a significant time commitment.

A selector this late in the pool; or, being able to choose one premium, unduped champion in exchange for attending the "celebration" virtually is a perfectly reasonable expectation. With or without the verbal gaffe.

A basic Titan, not so much.

With that, I don't know what your salary is, or how much you value your own time, but there is something quite awry with someone who expects more from a 17-year-old summoner than a multi-million dollar company.

And I think your bank account needs to be studied. Because it should be relatively clear that your view is askew due to outside influence.

For no human could be so… inhuman.
