There's a great way around this.
Score more than 15k points.
my thing is there should be any points for you if you can’t/ won’t fight. You should get nothing. No fight= no points
Kabam have said that they want to stop this behaviour but haven't managed to figure out a way to do so without unintentionally harming others. they don't want to remove the ability to pause entirely because people legitimately use it sometimes (albeit briefly); you can't simply say "if attacker & defender at max health then lose" because then they can just do a couple of hits before pausing and there's no way to draw a line in the sand to catch people abusing this without also penalising someone else who didn't.
If you can't win against a Pauser then you definitely don't deserve to get any points either.
Also, the button is just a convenience. Normal players might use the pause button to do legitimate things, like double checking nodes and stuff (this won't happen in high competitive tiers of course, but there's still a whole world of less experienced players that still have to learn as they go). But someone that wants to just stall out the match can just swipe up. The game will pause, no button required. And no trivially technical way of preventing this from happening either, that doesn't have its own set of problems.
Do some damage den pause as well
You will score more than 15k points
I'm sure there's no trivially easy way to do it.
And I personally find the button useful, since sometimes I'm interrupted whilst playing; or I just need to pay attention to something else for a moment.
Now, since this has been a subject of discussion going back to the Miike/Jax era, I presume that options like these have been considered and discarded; but to help me and others understand: what would be the significant drawbacks to options such as these -
1 - Limit the Pause to a duration like 30-60s? (Let's be honest: anyone who Pauses for >60s is unlikely to be coming back, and go for the win...)
2 - Remove Pause during the last 10s* of the match?
*Intended additional consequence: Attacker is advised not to just go ham with six seconds to go, push their opponent to SP3, but pause before they can throw it...
