Alliance Coliseum - is a massive, massive time suck

I have no idea why anyone thought this would be fun, I would rather do regular AQ that i can do in a grand total of 20 minutes across 24 hours. I have zero interest in doing the same fight over and over and over to level up my podium to get a high enough score that my alliance deems acceptable. This isn't fun, it's torture.

I think there is something good here, but in the current form I personally find it way to grindy, It’s one of those modes I’ll do bc the rewards are good, but it’s just too much repetition. Fighting the same defender 50-100 times over 3 days is just not enjoyable.

I think I will just grind arenas for units…. At least the defender changes. If it were 3 fights for 3 podiums with some do overs …. Maybe. But to keep chasing levels? lol, no.

Maybe the purpose of this God-awful, grindy clown fiesta of a slogfest is to make us miss AQ as boring and crappy as it is. At least with AQ you can be in and out in a reasonably short duration.

This new game mode is deeply disrespectful of the players' time and I hope Kabam retires it immediately. I doubt it though since they immediately have monetized it and presumably that's also why the slog is so intolerable in this game mode is to try to drive us to say F it and just give them our money to speed it up.

This might be even worse than grinding arena for units.

They really should have chosen someone else other than Adam to debut this mode. Using such a finnicky and AI reliant character was a bad decision. They would have been better off using someone like Aegon as the boss who could throw his sp1 and sp2.

I agree with the comments on the level up. Way way too long and grindy to level them up. It's extremely obvious it's to incentivize spending units to level them but at least make it less obvious than this.

Also everyone is complaining about this being longer than aq like we didnt already have this information before it dropped. We knew all that already and we knew kabam wanted this to be everest/wow/eop substitute. We can argue about if the alliance version should be tuned that way but we did have the info beforehand

Sure, the question is whether it’s more repetitive and boring than running map 8 like you’re in purgatory.

I’ll take coliseum and the rewards any day. At least here the purpose is to try out lots of champs. And I actually enjoy playing the game for extended periods of time, I guess. The actual fighting can be really fun, and this is a chance to settle in and enjoy it. To each his own, i suppose.

I expected it to be less grind and more crazy damage output. Instead you'll get hit unconditionally with those M L counters. On a bright side, there is finally a content where you can use enchantress (almost, I always time out with mine, but she's great for that fight)

I had high hopes for this coming out of the Brawl live stream demo. But honestly this sucks. I feel like I'm doing a long EoP fight, baiting out a ton of specials from an AI that wants to hold for sp2 and sp3. The nodes and planning and effort is far more than AQ, and if this was in the game as a side quest, that would be fine. But if you are replacing something repetitive and almost brainless effort, that is the bar. Repetitive and now with more effort, means it's worse.

Last thing I'll note is the movement away from a map. I see a trend and I don't like it personally. Poker was fighting and no map. It felt repetitive and I didn't feel I was making progress. The weird webapp FF4 arcade was fighting (watching it at least) and no map. Repetitive and didn't seem worth it. Now this endless healthbar one fight. I can't even looks at how many I've taken down because I'm trying to bait specials every two seconds.

I just don't know... Looking at the content this year... The monthly EQ change, the weird side quests, the decisions to make progress based on prestige instead of a new title to chase (above Valiant)... The feeling that every new thing will be bugged (and is bugged)... I hope Kabam really revisits who is making the game decisions here. Because this past year isn't the game that got us to year 11, and I'm sad to watch it go this way.

Rewards are good for this week but that will always normalize and eventually lag behind. Rewards naturally grow over time and they would have had to put these stuff somewhere in the game like eq and radiance and battleground stores regardless.

It’s too early to judge it overall but based on effort alone it’a not, assuming it would one one day replace regular AQ.

AQ needs 15-20 minutes a day, this is already taking hours…

the fact that it's the anniversary and winter soldier was not chosen as the boss to debut the new mode where you test out crazy burst champs against a huge healthpool was a HUGE miss

I’m shocked by the negativity of responses here, I’m loving coliseum. But maybe I’m an older era player that likes the grind, and I’m in a no-pressure alliance so don’t have any minimum scores to get. I hit over 3.5m solo points pretty easily though.

Levelling each podium champ separately for multiplier points makes boring

If any champ is levelled up it must reflect to all podium champs

Also levelling in easy mode is very easy.

Does the podium#1 champ (easy mode with lvl 4) who defeats boss 5 times gets more points than another person podium#1 champ (same champ with same rank & sig; but mode hard with lvl 4) he defeats boss 2 times.

Which person gets more points?

Honestly I'd love for them to just make nightmare raids a weekly thing. This coliseum mess is annoying, time consuming, and way too repetitive.

I guess this is a hot take but I do like it, going in and trying to beat my own score to see what's the best performance I can get is fun to me.

However I do entirely agree it takes a lot of time. However I think there is also a really easy fix on Kabams end for this issue:

Massively boost the XP gained towards a podium, this way we need to do less fights to reach a podium level up
To compensate they can lower the amount of tokens we have to go in.

Seems like a simple solution to me, instead of 30 tokens we get 20, but the podiums level up a lot quicker. Overall keeps the (in my opinion) fun challenge of beating your own score while massively reducing the time spend on it so it feels less like a waste to those who don't want to do it.

I did a few runs to see what it's like. Absolutely grindy and not fun. I'm not wasting any more of my time on this. If others want to, that's their life choice. But frankly, Kabam needs to evaluate their design decisions.

The gameplay is great, the grind is horrific. Get rid of leveling up podiums and you've got a great game mode.

my feedback? This current iteration should be the “Nightmare Raids” equivalent of Coliseum and there should be a “regular” version that’s a little more casual and less rewards

Good points. Maybe solo will be better. Problem is I don’t need or want Everest/EOP anything with my alliance. 5 minutes in and out a few times a day is enough.
