I still remember when MCOC ran so well on my iPhone 6s+ while now my iPhone 13 ...
I just find it really strange how everything changed almost overnight. I was still using my ten-year-old iPhone 6s+ in early 2025 to play MCOC before the phone finally stopped working altogether (the Apple Service Center near me said it would cost more than $500 to repair). Even in its final days, MCOC was still running surprisingly well on the iPhone 6s+. There were almost no lags, and overheating only happened after several hours of use. It was running the latest supported version, iOS 15.8.5, when I retired it around February or March of 2025.
On my seven-year-old iPhone XR, MCOC also worked very well up until iOS 16. Lags were minimal, and overheating only occurred after prolonged use—usually more than half a day. After upgrading to iOS 17, the game still generally worked fine, but performance clearly started to decline. Lags became more frequent and overheating happened faster, though the game was still playable. When I upgraded to iOS 18 last year, however, MCOC became almost completely unplayable. In less than 15 minutes of gameplay, the phone would overheat, causing severe lag spikes, freezing, and eventually full crashes.
On my three-year-old iPhone 13 running its factory default iOS 15, MCOC played nearly perfectly—no lags, delays, freezes, or crashes. It honestly exceeded my expectations. But just like with my iPhone XR, I took a leap of faith and upgraded my iPhone 13 to iOS 18—one of two upgrades I will probably regret for the rest of my life. MCOC still runs okay on the iPhone 13, but within less than an hour the overheating becomes almost unbearable, and the lags, freezing, and crashes—issues that never happened on the older iOS—now occur frequently.
I know this isn’t entirely Kabam’s fault, but I do believe Kabam can still do something about it. I can accept performance issues on older devices appearing after several hours of gameplay—but not within 30 minutes or less. The gap is just too profound when the game ran smoothly on an iPhone 6, yet now can barely function on an iPhone 13. It will great to see if this year (2026) there will be some effort made by the Kabam development team to make this game still viable on older devices that are running on later operating systems.
