No direct damage does not ignore protection. Never did. All it meant was that it is neither energy damage nor physical damage. So it will ignore those resistances
I figured I'm just using Kabam's logic
This seems fine. Theyβre just removing the ability to cheese through Raids with those listed effects, which is a fair trade off if they follow through with shaking up the Raid pool and buffing the boosts and/or options. The affected champs are better into Protection (the effect that actually shows up with regularity in most normal content, as opposed to Vigor and other related effects only showing up in very specific encounters) and the AA change is also basically a strict buff.
Build economic model around acquiring unique champs. Create videos, and use content creators to highlight those champs abilities and damage. Sell champs to make milions. Nerf champs. Repeat.
Yes it always seems fine on paper... But Going by their history one or two champions are going to get messed up
We got a list of champs these changes will effect?
They mentioned 2 specifically, Gentle and Silver Samurai and they'll be removing all champions that have eco damage from the Raid pool π
Also protects champs in vigor fights, eg Ares in the upcoming carinas
Ares cannot take damage from damaging effects, so he was immune to this interaction anyways.
Oh no.. lol, I took gentool r4 after I pulled 7A. I have to read it now. Rip
The article named Chavez, Joaquin Falcon, Northstar, Shang-Chi, Hulk, Luke Cage, Red Guardian and Rhino. All of them either inflict Trauma effects, gain Reverb effects, or otherwise have attacks that deal bursts of bonus damage based on a % of the original hit. If you've ever used America Chavez on a Debuff Siphon node in Raids (increase passive damage effects by 75%, stacks up to five times), you'd see how rapidly this damage can scale due to the node interactions. Her SP2 has a bonus that deals an extra burst of energy damage equal to 50% of the damage from each of her last three hits. So the normal hit is amplified by up to 1,000% per Role Force charge. Then you get the burst of damage equal to 50% of that, which is ALSO being multiplied by the Role Force bonus, and then that gets multiplied further by the 375% Vicious buff from Debuff Siphon. I only have her at unawakened R1 as a 7-star or ascended and awakened r5 as a 6-star. Even at that level, her SP2 burst damage was hitting in the range of 4.6 million for each of her last three hits.
I don't see what all the fuss is about with this one, it is a healthy change at the end of the day. If anyone has used Northstar in Raids then you already know how absolutely busted the reverb prowess daunted combination is with debuff siphon or whatever the one with daunted was called, you just hit cap in two sp1s. Same thing goes for Red Guardian and Dazzler but with the vigor charges in Big Thing, usually just one shot almost anything with a single sp2 which is a bit ridiculous it makes certain nodes extremely easy to deal with.
As long as all these champs' actual kits and non modified numbers aren't nerfed I'm okay with these changes personally.
Thanks for the details. I understand now what they are changing. The Chavez, falconi, purg, Luke etc I have used them.
Solo raids are going to be longer it seems.
I'm not saying what they are doing is wrong, I'm only saying that they'll obviously mess other champions like they did with hulkling and valk
**IF** this can be done without affecting anything else, I don't see this as a problem. I understand why this has to happen, and I appreciate Kabam giving us a good heads up on this. The issue I see is that when this launches, how many related (or unrelated) things are gonna be broken due to poor (or complete lack of) testing. Listen, I get it. A game of this magnitude can be EXTREMELY difficult to try to troubleshoot. As someone who created games in the past, I know how changing one small thing can have catastrophic changes on something completely unrelated you didn't expect. You guys HAVE a test server. You guys have PLENTY of CCP testers who, I am sure, would be more than happy to make a run through with these changes before you officially launch it to the public. For the love of Odin, please make good use of them before launching this.
That is a valid concern then, I hope there isn't any collateral since they're gonna be working on this for a few months instead of trying to get it out asap but that's probably wishful thinking
All is good on paper but their gonna mess this up somehow and im sorry saying this but their track record from this year alone is just horrible. Plus the Jean Grey situation is still not been addressed her damage got nerfed somehow and we don't know if it was because inequity got lumped in with the protection update or not since someone did send screenshot in a forum that her damage got nerfed a bit.
Wait, does this mean the vigor from the Thor relic is gonna be nerfed? π¬
Ares doesn't take any damage from damage effects.
So Iβve learned. Thx bros.
Kabam will screw this up.
That sounds exhausting. You can be critical of Kabam and their mistakes without scolding them for ever touching their code. If you do earnestly think the change is fine, then just yell at them when they do mess something up, not when they announce literally any change whatsoever.
The one thing that stood out to me was them saying that this would lessen the need for damage caps (and other damage restrictions) in future content. If all champs can now deal their proper damage because a select few won't deal obscene damage due to some node interaction, I'll gladly take that change. I also think that the upside (more damage in fights with Protection) will be way more prevalent than the downside (less damage in fights with Vigor). Protection is a node that pops up everywhere while Vigor (and similar nodes) pops up much less and in much fewer types of content.
I really like that Kabam announced this well in advance as well. Props to them for that. It's really refreshing to see them do that rather than two or so days after the fact, which sometimes feels like their standard MO. π€£
Kabam - "Trust me bro"
I have trusted them enough to know that they'll definitely screw up, if they don't I'll be glad but how many times have they met your expectations
I'm sure kabam will forget to test some champions and some interactions and will have bugged or nerfed situations so I'm definitely not looking forward to this. I hope they actually do things right for once and test everything accordingly and change what is needed to avoid nerfs situations, use ccp for something useful for once and have them help with the testing. Btw this is just a way to nerf damage in some situations to make people use more items, its not a way to help players like some think lol, kabam only thinks at what benefits them, not the players.
"We consider this a problem..." this phrase sounds familiar
Iβm not going to argue against the logic of the proposed changes. Weβll wait and see how it pans out, but itβs hard to be optimistic given their recent track record.
I will let you know who my rank ups are between now and then so that everyone will have a good idea of the those champs that will assuredly be unintentionally nerfed
Btw⦠they mentioned that gentle and samurai are getting their numbers reworked. Meaning we won't feel any reduction in damage after echo change, which is a very good thing.
βKabam usually fails to meet expectationsβ and βthereβs no point chastising Kabam when they havenβt actually failed yetβ arenβt incompatible statements. Youβre just looking to be mad at this point. I canβt make you not mad, Iβm just telling you that youβll be happier when you arenβt blowing a gasket at the mere shadow of a problem.
Will Kabam mess this up somehow? Probably. Theyβll get my choice words when that actually happens though, not when they announce a reasonable change with a timeline and plan of action.
