I just bought it from the webstore, shows up goldtrack in the bottom right of the game screen but the padlocks are not showing on the actual track so I've no idea if it's working

The elder stuff doesn't start for the first couple weeks anyway. If you don't get to elder before it unlocks, then you can just hold off on those selectors until you get there.
