Off Season AW Match Making.. should I be concerned?

So we are bottom of t1 - 3700 and change war rating
But we have consistently matched all Masters alliances for the entire off season
I have no idea why, but that's fine... What I'm concerned about is when Season actually starts

I have never experienced this before and I've been playing AW since the game mode release

Has this been mentioned or addressed anywhere in another post? I'd like to know that we will be matched based on war rating when season begins.. I don't even know what criteria the matching system is using atm and what the odds would be that we match a Masters alliance (300-400 war rating differential) 6 wars in a row

Yes, if you're in tier 1 at the beginning of an AW season, you can be matched against master alliances. There's actually pretty decent odds that it does happen.

But once your season points start to build up after the first 2 wars, matchmaking will be a lot more fair.

Last season we consistently matched by war rating (similar war rating for each alliance) - we always have, but this is in off season and it's 6 times in a row

As for matching at a 300-400 point differential during season being fairly likely as you said, I don't think that's the case.. why would that be likely at all? Matching is based on War Rating and has been since AW first came out, Prestige matching was experimented with a few years ago, but was deemed as a failed experiment and matching was once again reverted to being based solely on rating as the purest form of competition

I believe AW matching works similar to BG matching, except with different criteria

BG matching attempts to match as closely as possible in Rank.. gradually expanding the acceptable range of differential in Rank until a match is found

I think AW matching does the same thing.. but with War Rating as the criteria.. begins by attempting to match as closely as possible with similar Rating.. and gradually expands the search if no match is found?

I don't think Season score has anything to do with matching, it's based on war rating.. and the link war rating has to season scoring is the multiplier that is linked to tier, war rating determines tier, tier determines score multiplier - but score doesn't factor into matching

After the first war of the season, matches are made off of season score, first place matches the highest opponent they can match, next highest matches their highest etc, as for offseason it looks like matches in t1 are pretty random and war rating isn't really much of a factor with the difference almost going up to 1000, which doesn't matter tbh since offseason isn't competitive. The first war of a season might take rating into account a bit more since the difference isn't as big as in offseason from what i've seen but it can still be a lot, then again this also isn't all that relevant since it just determines the actual matchmaking that starts for the remaining 11 wars

Matchmaking is not based on war rating at all. It's based on your place on the leaderboard, which is based on your total season points, which is based on: attack bonuses, win bonuses, defender diversity, and exploration, multiplied by your tier multiplier.

If you pay attention, you'll notice you often match alliances within a few places as you on the leaderboard. During my last season in tier 1, we came off strong because of big thing and had close to 3800 rating. However, we were dying like a plat 3 alliance. So, what happened was, after the first few wars where our performances cemented us a spot in the leaderboard, we were getting constantly deathmatched against allies who were close to us on the leaderboard, but had way less war rating than us, resulting in us only being able to win 5 war rating from the war, but losing like 45.

I still suggest that Season Wars be set (for the whole season) based on prior season results (and Rating). At least for the top maybe 5 or 10 Tiers (at x13 teams each, thus 12 wars, so accounts for top 65 to 130 alliances).

And then also has Promotion/Regulation like Premier Soccer/Football, of between 2 or 3 teams out of the 13, each season.

So no more complaints about matching, etc (they could even support Tier Win/Loss Standing visible for your Tier in game just like in sports). You would play the exact same teams (once) that everyone else in your Tier is playing that season.

Rewards could either be set per (groups of 13) Tiers (ie, place 1 thru 13 in each Tier would have a set rewards no matter what teams in other Tiers end up doing), -OR- could continue as current with overall Points that lumps together all Tiers (except that Tier Multipliers would still make lower standing Tier 1 teams semi-comparable to high standing team in Tier 2).

Teams disbanding (from among those 65 or 130 top teams) should be done INBETWEEN seasons. But I guess if someone folds mid-season then the remaining teams due to still fight them yet in the rest of season should somehow get like a “average points” or something based on what others so far got against that folding team, or maybe somehow exclude those matches from already done ones too, But mid-season folds near top should be rare. (that's a minor issue compared to the overall suggestion)

I agree, this would be a very fun change and remove some of the effects of the current matchmaking system that lead to an alliance skipping opponents they should usually face when finishing high, unfortunately i doubt kabam implements it without a guarantee that it returns some money and alliance war will continue to get treated to nothing but the bare minimum that keeps it from getting all too stale. If it for some reason happened though, making tier 1 only 7 alliances and having those match twice (also like in a football league) would add a nice extra layer to the competitiveness and is also fitting since the gap between those alliances and the rest of master is usually very big.

It's not, but it's the first where we matched top 20 for all 6 wars? That's the reason for the post.. that it happened all 6 times lol.. does that not sound weird to anyone?

If off season matching is random, isn't this pretty unlikely?

Had that a couple off-seasons ago, but this off-season it's been similar alliances. It may seem consistent, but in reality it's probably more random. You won't be facing them in season.

Told you. There's pretty decent odds of matching master allies the first 2 wars, because war rating isn't a factor.

To get fair matchups, your season points need to build up a little bit. I think the only thing determining who you match in the first war is your tier. Or maybe what that other guy said about pre season points. Since your ally did so well in the off season, yall got a master ally
