First 7* R5 Decision

I know posts like this come up on the forums all the time, and honestly, having played this game for as long as I have, I’ve usually avoided making them.

But this feels like a big enough decision that I’d genuinely like some input from people who already have a few 7* Rank 5s under their belt.

Once I finish Apex Coliseum (currently 44 health bars away from clearing Ebony Maw...), I’ll finally have the resources for my first ever 7* Rank 5.

The obvious advice is always “rank who you enjoy most,” which would point me toward Venom, Hyperion, or Silk without much hesitation.

The problem is that Rank 5 feels like one of those account-defining investments where I don’t want to look back later and think “yeah… probably should’ve gone another way.”

I’m curious what people with actual Rank 5 experience would recommend here. Thanks.

My firts was Serpent and no regrets. Also Jean Grey, Onslaught, Nico, Photon or SWoman are very good options.

For my rank 5s, I went with dual threat champs that I enjoy playing. Onslaught, Serpent, Photon, SpiderWoman, Nico, Jean, Hyperion are all good dual threats champs that will put in work for you (Hyperion is not that much of a defender these days). End of the day, as cliche as it might sound, rank up the champs you like playing with.

My first 7* Rank 5 was KingPin and my second was Jean Grey.

I was thinking about ranking up Venom or OG Iron Man since I really enjoy playing them, but then I kinda had the same thoughts as you

First R5 was Strange. Great champ and probably my favorite Marvel character. Next came Serpent (great 2-way), then Kushala (often used on attack by me), Heimdall (ranked for Carina’s).

Jack was my first tech because he’s great on attack against so many champs, and then more recently Zemo (again, like the character a lot and champ is broken).

All are useful to me in questing, BGs and AW/AQ. I’m now sitting on two R5s until I determine what I want, but I will probably try to balance classes at this stage and haven’t 100% decided.

Here’s a few things I would consider:

Do you play the champ often and do you enjoy it?
Is prestige a factor more than usefulness?
Does ranking this champ unlock or make easier content you want to complete?
Which modes do you enjoy playing most?

Back in the 6* days, I remember someone saying don't rank 4 what you wouldnt rank 5. I think the same applies to 7* but the game has taken a suckier turn lately so have some fun because the game is moving away from it

Not Spider-Woman.

I went with Silk.

I absolutely love her flow, her damage is insane, and she’s one of those champs I never get tired of using.

She might not be the nastiest BG defender, but honestly, I’m hoping that just means she gets banned less often and I get to use her more.

No regrets at all. First 7* Rank 5 officially done.

Just Ranked my first. Titania, hence the Profile change. Two more to Elder. For once, the content is done and I'm waiting on Ranking. Unheard of for me. Usually I'm lagging on Story. Lol.

No. I can muster Act 9 Exploration, but I highly doubt I'll be doing Carina's. Not enough at least. End-Game content has always been the bane of my existence. I don't have the patience for it. I did a run of Necro for the Realm Event, and I've done RoL of course. That's about it. I'm sure I could do LoL and Abyss, but I'm just not that motivated.

Without Carinas, it will take a bit longer to get Elder but you will eventually get there. Act 9 exploration is not at all hard, just somewhat time consuming, assuming you only did an initial completion run. If you have enough energy refills in your stash, you can finish it off in a month or less.
