Shatterstar's design doesn't thrill me. Something about it looks odd - tho he does look VERY 90's which fits his origins. And truth be told, I would've preferred Rictor, but I did guess it was gonna be one of the two. We just have so many cool Mutant powers we could be displaying, that it's a bit of a bummer to get another one that's primarily using blades and swords.
Lots seemed to have called Phylla-Vel as well because she was Cosmic, and she looks pretty cool.
His victory animation is so cool. Don't care about granny though, too many good cosmics to even consider her.

Her being named Phyla-Vell tells me the one true Quasar is coming.
They're both members of the LGBTQIA+ community as well, so there's a Pride tie-in.
Yeah we knew that going in, which is why Rictor/Shatterstar/Mystique/Daken were big guesses and Phylla-Vel was the #1 assumption.
Gotta wait till next June I guess in the hopes of getting my boy Anole into the game…

You seem to have overlooked the part about them looking like dweebs. Shatterstar especially looks like a generic amalgamation of a dozen comic archetypes.

As it turns out, it was just a coincidence. According to Vin_Cent, they randomly chose the characters before the Phyla was even decided on for this year.

So he looks exactly as Shatterstar was always intended to look. Every iteration keeps the same "comic trend stew" thinking behind the design.

TLDR: Phyla-Vell is the character we're getting, and she was, at one point, Quasar (the first one being Wendell Vaughn). "Martyr" is another alias she took on after Wendell came back and she made a pact with Oblivion, becoming the avatar of Death.
In the video posted she has the Martyr design.
