Shell Alliances Restricting AW Season 2 Multiplier Points

Because AW tiers are based on percentage/war rating, shell alliances continue to slow active alliances AW tier progression. Shell alliances don’t affect AW Season 2 Rankings, but they do affect AW tier multipliers.

There are 9+ shell alliances in the top 325 war rating alliances. That may not seem like much; however, tier 1 includes around 20-30 alliances, and tier 2 includes around 150-200 alliances. This means alliances who are trying to move up AW Season 2 rankings into platinum and master may not be receiving the appropriate multiplier for their AW points.

This was not addressed in Season 1, will it be addressed in Season 2?

THERE IS A LIMITED NUMBER OF ALLIANCES THAT CAN EARN POINTS THROUGH A x7 MULTIPLIER.
Shell alliances are part of that limited number alliances. They aren't scoring points towards AW though. The only thing they are doing is preventing other alliances from gaining access to that multiplier.

If you look up 4 posts, you'll see that kabam zibiit literally just said that shell (inactive) alliances don't count towards the calculation of the tier 1 top 0.1% and so forth. So they're not affecting anyone's war rating tier. Now we don't what constitutes as 'inactive' but it's safe to say that the shell alliances in the top 100 are definitely considered inactive cause they've been like that for a long while.

Can we get some information on what constitutes an alliance being “inactive”? There are shell alliances that were abandoned and later taken over by other players because such shell alliances were changed from to private to open, meaning anyone who asked to join was able to. In these cases shell alliances have enough members to run alliance wars - is there a minimum number of alliance wars alliances must run to be considered “active”?

The specifics of this isn't something we can get into right now. We understand the desire to make sure you're alliance is making the cutoff but we also want to make sure the alliances who are being counted in the tiers are committed to competing in Alliance War. This really wouldn't even affect most alliances who are competing in season 2. That being said, it does leave enough wiggle room that taking a break from war for life events won't impact your tier.

Good info, but most of us are concerned with the flip side of it. Not if a break for life events affects us, but how it affects others. Let's say an alliance in tier 1 breaks up a week before season 2 started. Would they be taking up a multiplier spot away from the top alliances in season 2, putting a cap on them for no other reason than a broken alliance has that multiplier? And for how long would they hold onto that spot?

The specifics have not been discussed/revealed to player, similar to many things in this game. It leads us to use the data available to try to figure out your algorithm for these things. It is tedious for those that do it, and often it leads to misconceptions.
