Let’s take a trip way back in time! Back to a time where a maniacal machine was on the path to destroying the Battlerealm, but several courageous Champions and Summoners stopped his rampage!

Introducing, Back Issue #1: Ultron’s Assault!

As the Contest has grown and evolved, we’ve introduced many Event Quests, each with their own unique stories, and many that have expanded on the mythos of the Battle Realm and the Contest of Champions. We want to give Veteran Summoners a way to relive those moments, and to give Summoners that weren’t with us at the time a chance to experience the stories of the Contest that they had missed out on!

This Event Quest is available in TWO difficulties:

CLASSIC difficulty is a recreation of the original quest. While not completely 1:1, the layouts, difficulty, and dialogue are all the same as you remember. Take a stroll down memory lane and see how far you've come, or experience a quest you never got the chance to play!

VARIANT difficulty is a new spin on the quest, available for Summoners level 40 and up. This version features extreme challenge, new opponents, updated map layouts, and new combat effects for the boss fights. This quest will test even the mightiest of Summoners, so be prepared! Each Chapter of Variant Difficulty requires that you only bring Champions from 2 specific classes. These Quests will test not only your skills, but your knowledge of Champion’s abilities, immunities, resistances, and counters! Those who rely on only a few Champions will find the need to diversify, even outside of the Champion Requirements in place.

Remember Summoners, Variant Difficulty is going to be HARD! We’re stressing the use of a varied roster in this iteration. The good news is that Back Issues are permanent content, so if you’re not able to take Variant Difficulty on right now, take all the time you need and come back to it when you feel you are better equipped!

As the name suggests, this is our first iteration of our Back Issue Quests. Our goal is to periodically release more Event Quests for our Summoners to relive! Keep an eye out as we go back and explore more of the history of the Contest of Champions!

You’re probably wondering about those 5-Star Rank 3 → 4 Gems for 2015 Champions only. Those crystals contain class specific 5-Star Rank Up Gems that can only be used on Champions that were available upon release and those released until the end of 2015!

Just completed first run.

After considering the amount of resources needed, and the amount of bs nodes, one r4 to r5 crystal (random), and two r2 to r3 rankups are defenetly NOT worth the time/currency invested.

100%ing this quest is gonna give out better rewards pheraps, but random. I dont wanna be in the jeans of all the people getting terrible rng from the rankups and awakening crystal after this pile of garbage gets finished.

VERY disappointing.

After more observation, the 2.3 Ultron Drone Boss does appear to be bugged. My interpretation of his nodes and abilities is that not landing attacks while under a fatigue debuff means no unavoidable damage. As this slow motion video shows, Star Lord takes unavoidable damage when landing a light attack while not inflicted with a fatigue buff while the Ultron Drone is stunned:

I've been corrected once so far, so please correct me if I'm wrong this time as well. My only complaints about this quest are the bug(s), the other being non-robot poison immune champions taking shock damage against the 2.2 Ultron Drone Boss.

Also got something to say about your comment: this new content isn't for you...it's intended to help the new folks and the most experienced players. It's permanent. Let it sit for a while like rol, lol etc. Do the content you need to get your account up to the level of this new content. But don't let it discourage you. Seriously from the sounds of it you have plenty of game play to get through. Good luck.

I suppose if it comforts what you say, but in the end it will be like the labyrinth of legends it is not enough to have a good character to a good rank if you do not have a team of good characters at higher ranks so in the end if it seems an unfair mission and the prizes, ... only the stones for the 2015 characters are used? it is very absurd the truth this does not have any sense ... because the opponents are not 2015 also eh seen that there is emma frost ...

I'm not gonna complain that the variant difficulty is too hard. If they designed it for the top of the top people to get a challenge that's up to them. But I am complaining that the classic difficulty is totally not worth the energy cost needed to fully explore it.

If they want to make it such that it is only for nostalgia purposes and they want everyone including the people who just started to play it, then they should make all 3 chapters cost 1 energy per step or even free, cause they'll be busy doing classic ultron alongside the monthly EQ.

If they do want to keep the energy cost ramp up for classic difficulty, they should at minimum match the rewards to heroic or master difficulty EQ so that it's worth our energy to fully explore.

A mid tier quest would be just another EQ except it would be permanent. It doesn't make sense to create permanent content for previous stages in the game's progression. Act 4 was end game content at the time it was released. ROL was impossible unless you had Electro and were willing to spend a lot to complete it. I just did a LOL path for zero units that would've cost 3-6k when it was released. Old permanent content along with the EQ etc. is there to get you to the place where you can complete newer permanent content. That's how it has always been.

Yes there is. It's called "Act 4". The 4* generic gem and 5* shards you mentioned are there too.

Meh, its for those top tier people that have 4/55 and 5/65 rosters that clear uncollected EQ with ease. What they SHOULD do is either reduce energy costs of classic mode for all chapters to 1 energy per step to make the current rewards worth it, OR to raise the rewards of classic mode to at least match heroic or master difficulty of EQ to make the energy cost to explore it worth it.

THESE REWARDS ARE INSANE.

Those rewards are great, but mid tier players won't be able to do this.
Wouldn't it be possible to creat a mid tier bracket with a 4* for completion and maybe a 5* for exploration ?

Putting spite on a cosmic restriction is so laughable i'm tearing up tbh.
Im talking about no skills for a fairly simple reason: my roster and my thumbs are at high levels, and there is NOTHING in ths whole event able to kill you not being Unavoidable Damage.
And even when you have a possible counter (magik for the mystic paths, AA, for first, and so on), the paths are tailored so that you need to invest in that single champ, costantly having to heal him up.

Let's mak a quick example: i have void, hyperion, angela, rhulk and cosmic spidey, all of them r4 or above, for the final chapter. I already am restricted by the class limit, so i can only bring cosmic or science. On top, spite makes 3 out of 5 champions unusable, and the other 2 viable only without dex in half of the fight. but the other half has defenders with specials which can't be fully evaded, hence dex or not i'll take dmg and they ll power gain.

Add the incredible stinginess into using special attacks aside ultron bots, and you got a money grab. i should have a ss of my fight vs GG on 100% power gain and aggression: regeneration. When he finally used his special 2 he had 19 stacks of regen, tell me how many seconds of bait are those.

People like you who alwais talk about learning the champs and the counters are usually pretty much unaware of how this game works, and just stick to theory.... or to wallets.

If you wanna tell me you cleared the event with just 50% attack and hp boost and your account has 1,2m rating, with 20 r4, then gg to you my friend. Other than that, i suggest you to give the nodes a quick look before talking about strategies.

Nothing you said changes anything I posted. The fights are not meant to be waltzed through. You’ll probably die a lot. If you insist on picking less than ideal r4 champs just because they’re r4, that’s on you. No reason you couldn’t pick a more suitable r3 and use revives and pots from free crystals or boosts to close the gap. If you’ve decided to rush through it for no reason when you don’t have the right champs or skills, it’s not a moneygrab, it’s a fooltrap.

The variant mode sounds awesome, the rewards are insane, but I'm not near that level though.. classic mode is disappointing... The rewards are ridiculous..

There should be A heroic or master difficulty rewards there.. now there's something like beginner and uncollected, nothing in-between

I would like to know as well. Those 2 bosses are absurd.

I did find a work around for the 2.3 boss that worked ok but I still suffered from the bug every fight.

The only work around I can think of is RNG luck using SW. No mystic or tech champs have true strike and Voodoo’s AAR isn’t enough to avoid having a fatigue debuff inflicted.

Skill should be enough to clear this content without using items, I’ve manage to reach the 2.3 boss with all champs at full health with 0 item use before losing them all to the bug I’ve provided evidence of. Perhaps that point of view is the problem.

Just finished Mutant/Skill part 100%, there was some really bad fights but overall really fun! Have 2 5r5 skill so it helped a lot. Other 2 parts will probably be harder for me since I have less options in the other 4 classes, but can't wait to try it. Costed me around 200 4h cristals to do 100%, which is not too bad imo. Good stuff from Kabam, was waiting for that type of content.

I really like that kabam is bringing back old stuff for newer players like myself (newer meaning I starting 6 months ago or so). However, I am not all that happy about the two difficulties. What I mean by this is the rewards for classic are meant for starting players, like brand new to the game, and variant is for super high level players. I am neither, I am in the middle. What if they made a third difficulty that was harder than heroic but easier than uncollected? This way, most if not all players could benefit from these kinds of events.

I haven't posted on this forum in months. I haven't been in an alliance since February. Completely stopped playing this game on a competitive level, & I have not been happier! I do play monthly Uncollected Quests & special events, because running solo I am able to do that on my own time.

I'm not here to complain about the level of difficulty. With rewards as such, this kind of content is supposed to be hard for us end-game content players. But I will say this... For the difficulty that this content is providing, because it takes more to beat it with your wallet, then it takes to beat it with your skill(s) & roster - There should be NO restrictions on what champs you choose, & all the rank up items should BE generic. It would be soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo f**ked up if one would to spend a nice chunk of money, & get NOTHING that they need! Those are my only gripes with this content.
