Pure Skill balancing

Now that we are getting more frequent champion balancing, when will Pure Skill be looked at? Mystic Dispersion had it's re-balancing and compensation given, yet the few of us that maxed this mastery out have been in literal limbo since March 2017, that's almost 2 years and a half.

At this point I would just be happy with a unit refund to be honest.

Any comments on this would be greatly appreciated, not asking for the world, or want to give out/complain, just legitimately baffled on how long this has gone without actually doing something about it.

Agree also. It scorches my rear end that Kabam ruined a mastery I put a ton of units and loyalty into because it was worth it. It got ruined at the 12.0 update. I never would have fully unlocked it if it was useless as it is now.

I agree they should refund the units/loyalty and let people decide if they still want it, if so it can be repurchased.

What do you mean 12 days? It's been over 2+ years this mastery hasn't worked. And the last time they even said anything about it was somewhere around 8 months ago or so. Same ole we're looking into it reply. Just give us our resources back and close the mastery.

Totally agree. But bear in mind Miike’s assertion that Pure Skill is actually as effective (maybe more so?) now as it was before. I don’t have the link to that old thread, but I have a hard time buying it—I’m happy to be convinced otherwise.

Mine is still opened to 3/5. But even those 3 points and the resources spent to attain them should be refunded, plus interest. I don’t think it’s mean-spirited to suggest that, as a policy, when parts of the game aren’t working, the best approach is to put people back where they should have been, everything else being equal. That won’t be perfect every time, but it’s a start. I’m baffled at how hard it is for this company to admit mistakes and make amends with its customers.

@DrZola I recall a few posts trying to explain how pure skill still works in theory but I don't recall anyone being able to show it in practice. The change to pure skill was more drastic than the change to mystic dispersion. A redund of the resources used to unlock it seems on fair. If people still see value in it after the refund they can always repurchase it. I agree with you 100% just make the players whole for this forgotten change.

This is one of those "true from a certain point of view" things. Based on discussions and testing, it seems Pure Skill has higher absolute strength relative to how armor works post 12.0 for most normal circumstances. In other words, Pure Skill still does something, and since there's less armor now than prior to 12.0 Pure Skill is proportionately stronger in those circumstances than it used to be. However, because 12.0 did in fact reduce the overall ability to stack armor, there's nothing for high rank Pure Skill to do anymore, and that's problematic.

Think of Pure Skill like it is a meal pass you buy that says you can have one free meal a week at a restaurant, but only up to a certain value. So the tier 1 pass gives a free meal, but only up to $5. Tier 2 gives a free meal, but only up to $10. Tier 3 caps at $20, tier 4 caps at $50, and tier 5 caps at $100.

This made sense when Kabam operated a restaurant where it was possible to order a $100 meal. But after 12.0, the most expensive course on the menu is now only $35. What's more, they retroactively doubled the cap on all passes. So now the tier 1 pass gives up to $10 of value, and so on. So those expensive tier 4 and tier 5 passes that people bought now have the exact same value as the much cheaper tier 3 pass. In fact, it was the very fact that they made all passes better that they made the most expensive ones useless. When tier 3 became good enough to cover the entire menu, there's nothing for tier 4 and 5 to do.

(PS: these numbers are just to make the example simple: they don't reflect the actual mechanical changes in the game).

It is simultaneously true that the passes are worth more than before, and yet the top two tier passes are now practically worthless. The only time you can use them is on holidays like Mother's Day when a special menu adds a $75 item for that one day. Which is what happens in MCOC: flat stats makes high armor almost impossible to get, except for those rare moments when special content creates super high armor by fiat.

Just to be clear, I wouldn't put it the way Kabam Miike did. Saying PS is more "effective" than before is being literally true on the margins but highly misleading in my opinion. I'm just explaining how that statement can even be marginally true at all. Based on the testing we did when the problem first surfaced, I think the only reasonable thing to do is to refund everyone who bought PS tier 4 and tier 5, because those are the tiers that are affected by the 12.0 mechanics changes. The first three tiers were tested to be having effects at least comparable to pre-12.0, so the only reason to refund those tiers is just to eliminate the inevitable argument you'll get if you only do a partial refund. Which to be honest might be worth it just on those grounds, given the huge delay in addressing the issue.

Yeah Pure Skill people need refunded. They ruined a somewhat decent mastery that's very expressive to unlock. I only have a couple unlocked because at the time I didn't use enough skill champs to warrent spending lots of units for a classed based mastery. Lots of people did though and I feel sorry for them because it's junk now. There's absolutely no reason for it to been ignored this long other than they don't want to deal with it.

That’s a version of how I remembered it, albeit a little longer and more colorful.

Bottom line: fix it or refund it. After this long that’s the only stand-up thing to do.

Almost 3 years of it being "looked at" and still nothing. Would love to see all of the class ones looked at (besides mystic which seems to be the only decent one that is useful) Tech isn't too bad but Mutant, Science, Skill and Cosmic are pretty worthless. Give us 5 more points and buff these class ones and I'd definitely use them and pay to open them.

I've suggested tier 4 and 5 be eliminated and refunded. I think the last time, I was warned and my thread was closed....though I may be getting it mixed up with any other opportunity over the years.

This is one of the major problems i have with Kabam. When i started playing i didnt know about the forums. I downloaded the game and started playing. I never knew about the early brackets or anything. I unlocked pure skill cuz my top champs were all skill. It wasnt till a yr after i started that i learned it is useless. Im sure some ppl think it still works. They need to block it so it cant be unlocked if it doesnt work and issue refunds to everyone who spent loyaltyvand units for it.

@Kabam Miike said however many years / months ago this was being worked on. I don't understand why or how it could possibly take so long to fix but my guess is nobody uses the mastery anymore so there's no urgency to fix it.

I spent a lot of units to max out this mastery pre 12.0 update and haven't used it since. I've asked countless times for updates and this topic mostly gets ignored.

I've suggested just reworking the mastery entirely to something new because it's pretty apparent there's no real fix possible or it would have been done by now.
