Why to show crystal shards in quest, when rewards doesn't have it

Which champs to prioritize for Paragon -> Valiant journey
I have recently became Paragon, and now pushing for Valiant. Can the community give me strategy/tips to prioritize upgrading specific champs for becoming Valiant? Please consider newer champs as well.
