Why does Claire take psychic thorns damage?

Are her autos non contact or not? What is the point of saying in her passive that her autos are spells and do energy damage if they make contact?

    Attacks can be any combination of Physical/Energy Damage and Contact/Non-Contact.

    You can have an Energy Damage attack that makes contact and that doesn’t make contact.

    I’m not too familiar with Psychic Thorns as I usually use Namor.
