Data Loss due to Account

Hi,
My is playing on his iPad which is around 5 Year’s Old. When he starts the game he gets a message saying officially his device isn’t supported. He’s getting a new one for Christmas anyway. But when he started the game he didn’t create a log in. So I’m worried that his progress might be lost when we change devices.
Is there anything I can do?
I tried creating a kabam account for him but that starts him from scratch. And he has to log out in order to get his account back.
Any ideas for a way to save the data when we change to the new device?
