Wow. Dormammu stans are right: That kit is awesome to play

Hi, all! Hope all is well!

First of all, I am posting at 4 a.m. because I am on vacation! I could be sleeping but the grind doesn’t stop just because you do! 😎👍

But anyway, I just wanted to pop in here and tell a quick story: A long time ago — it’s been years, now — I had written a long post about a character, and someone came into the thread and dropped a ton of knowledge about the Dread Dormammu, basically out of nowhere.

I simply can’t remember which character I was talking about originally, but it had turned to how Power Control was hugely important as a piece of utility, and this person came and explained that from their perspective, Dormammu was the best character to lock opponents down and that was that. No more discussion required.

Now, before people come in and explain that yes, Dormammu doesn’t have elite DPS, yes, I hear you. That’s true.

But I just duped my 6-star Dormammu a few days ago, and since I had always felt that it’s nice to have the character awakened and most importantly, while I cannot remember the person, I always remembered how passionate and excited they were to talk about the Dread Lord of the Dark Dimension, and in the back of my mind, I said, “One day, I am gonna see what is up with this.”

Again: Like a lot of kits from that timeframe, the ability to escalate the DPS simply isn’t built into the kit itself.

However, there are some interesting and useful synergies that can give you a little more pop — not gamebreaking, but noticeable — as well as a couple that really enable some serious sustainability.

Yeah, you gotta play the kit. None of it is free; there’s things you have to do, including reading the kit and practicing.

That being said: It’s definitely not one of the hardest kits in the game, and I have to admit, once I had practiced a little, I found it perfectly suitable for clearing Galen’s Legendary Terrax bosses without too much pain.

Yes, I know it’s just a Legendary side quest. But that’s my thing about this game: You get bored faster if you just load up your mains and blow through every single piece of content. I think clearing Legendary side quests with characters you don’t really use very much is a great way to keep the game relatively interesting, even eight years into it.

So, that’s it — I just wanted to give a shout-out to the person who took the time to explain that Dormammu is worth checking out, and I am glad I did — I might take the 6-star to Rank 2, which I had never considered doing before.

@psp742 : That was one of the things that prompted me to start learning/testing: I had been trying to master iHulk for a few days before I got the Dormammu dupe, and man, that synergy really helps both characters. Symbiote Supreme and Hela’s are another couple that I have found really interesting

Though I should be clear: Yes, those fights are longer. The trade-off is that with the Regeneration capabilities of that team, you can afford to make multiple mistakes, which is OK if the health pools of the opponent are around 150k, max

The problem I see is, that most synergies are with Mystics. I really hate having a class on my team twice

And i am completely on the other side of the see saw, stating my favourite duo is doom and diablord

NGL: You are correct about what you’re looking at — I think, at a minimum if you’re doing Legendary-level questing with health pools that allow you to get to an L3 for the option to burst heal, you probably want to take Symbiote Supreme.

But here’s a sneaky-good questing team, IF a person likes iHulk and has a 5/6-star Blade:

    Dormammu
    Symbiote Supreme
    IHulk
    Sorcerer Supreme
    Blade

Seriously. Think about what that team does. It’s basically “The Unkillables,” if your Blade is awakened. (Sadly, my 6-star isn’t.) But that team is funky. It can out in some interesting work, because all of those characters are actually really good — if the worst kit on a questing team is Dormammu, you might have a little something going, you know?

It’s a team that can handle a few interesting challenges — got some good immunities and power control with Dormammu, iHulk is poison immune and almost can’t die if you play him right, Symbiote Supreme gives you burst Bleed damage and Stagger, Sorcerer Supreme hits pretty hard once you get her Runes lined up, and Blade is still an effective kit, especially if you can bleed the character and you run Deep Wounds…

It’s a sneaky-good questing team. It really is
It's a pretty good team with bunch of utility at hand:

    Bleed&poison immunity
    Power control
    Evade prevention
    Block pen counter
    Immortality of iHulk

These are all nice. The problem is, that if the enemy is bleed immune, 40% of the team is useless. I will ignore Sym's stagger, because from my experience it's far too random to be reliable. Also, you don't need it if you have Sorcerer. Overall I like the team and when I gave it more thought, I found out it can get stuff done. If only I had a 6* iHulk...

@Kerneas : It was also a pretty sweet bonus that Danger Sense is active against all Mystics, in my case. A couple of those kits have been annoying to me in times past, and it gets old taking Human Torch, etc., all the time

That’s what I mean by trying new stuff. It’s how I stay motivated to play. If I used all of the best characters and counters all the time, I would be long gone from this game

I actually really share that feeling with you. I like to put together perfectly clicking synergy teams of oddballs champs who become mich better thanks to synergies, or just interesting champions who are fun to play. These two are my fave:

Spider-Ham, Venompool, Platinumpool, Tigra, Howard the Duck

Air-Walker, Falcon, Ebony Maw, Stryfe, Peni Parker

My goal is always to bring the less potent champions into a class-diverse team, that makes the weaker chains more in-line with the rest.

I love this! I know people are using the characters, but sometimes it doesn’t feel like it, you know? It’s just being honest to acknowledge that some kits do need some help, but it’s also fair to admit that there are quite a few interesting ones that, if a person puts in a little time and practice, will surprise you with how effective they are

I don’t run it as often as I used to, but I just busted out my Sentry-Aegon duo for some lane clearing and it was fun. Sentry isn’t perfect but every once in awhile, he will go off

I agree, although for me the diciding factor usually is interest. I love Sentry, he is my fave Marvel character, but I hate to play him in mcoc. He just feels so boring to play.

But that's subjective, if you like him, it's great, really, my goal is not to take the joy away from you. I just wanna express that interesting gameplay is a huge factor in deciding whether to play or not play a champion. That's why I went for Ebony Maw and Air-Walker. Also why I picked Prof X as my first r3 6*

I used him a ton back in the day cause he was Ike my 3rd 5*. I loved him but I would take a ton of block damage since his playstyle is a lot of parry mm or mlm, or parry heavy. Really solid champ and a sick character model and animations, but he could use some sort of buff

Dorm just needs a decent damage buff and he will be Mystic god. He already has double immunity and his utility is comparable or even better than Doom.

I have to admit, I have this kit on my list of ones to test, but since I know that many people really seemed to like the rework, I didn’t rush into it because I like to see what others think, too — because trust me, sometimes I get it wrong, or I can’t figure out the rotation

Take Gladiator Hulk, for example. If there’s some way to make that DPS respectable, I don’t know how to do it. I can’t figure out how to play it, so that’s why I don’t always jump in on every kit

No worries! Totally understand what you’re saying. Air-Walker is a character I wrote about before as a guilty pleasure. I had that kit locked in for a bit, but then I got distracted with Stryfe and didn’t get back to it. I should because it’s fun to play

This thread reminded me of King Groot.

    Bleed immune
Power drain/burn immune (this is mega)
    Heals
    Shrugs
    Furies
    Armor Breaks
    Poison
    Great base damage

And something that gets looked over. Doesn’t rely on debuffs for damage

Rank up your King Groot today.

That buff was no joke — I don’t use the kit much but I totally understand why people do. It’s really good

There’s a decent chance it might’ve been, I’ve been talking about how great dormammu is for a very long time haha. Been a few years since I wrote that guide, I’ll link it below for anyone who’s interested. I for some reason can’t seem to awaken my 6 star, it took a long time to even pull him. I’d like to take him up and see what he’s like at R4 if I can dupe him. It would be nice to see some kind of damage increase in future though, he doesn’t need much other than that. I think increasing the potency of his soul bond detonation and giving his base attack a nice boost would be all it needs. Maybe throw in something to have his specials hitting harder, increases attack based on power drained or buffs nullified for example. Even stacking his sig ability degen would be very helpful, there’s potential for that to be very annoying on defence but I feel like we have a lot of counters to that now anyway

That power drain is too good. I remember using him everytime Magik is around. No power no limbo. I wish I could get a 6*.

He might need a block prof buff on top of a damage buff given he’s so reliant on parrying and landing mediums/heavies.

(Plus allow his degen to stack)
