Misconception about the IMIW buff

Its a pretty common belief that IMIW's plasma dps has been decreased. While that was true during the beta, it isn't anymore.

Auntm.ai, which hasn't been updated yet, has the plasma damage for a r5 5* at 4880.4 over 6 seconds. That comes out as 813.4 per second.

The official MCOC website, which has the latest buffed values, says the plasma now does 10281 over 10 seconds. This comes out as 1028.1 damage per second.

Kabam should have stated the differences between the prebuff and post buff state clearly somewhere but we all know they love making stuff hard on themselves.

    Looking at my 6* R1…
The not yet updated Auntm.ai says 3836.7 over 6 seconds, or 639.33 per second.
My now buffed IMIW in game says 5481 over the 10 seconds, or 548 per second.
That’s a solid 14% decrease in damage per second. While the plasma may be easier to hold onto, the update as it is live in game is telling me that IMIW had his damage nerfed. Seems like their website is handing out inaccurate information, or they put in the buff as it was in the beta and not according to the information they posted on their website, either of which would be a problem.

EDIT: Checked my max 4* as well and he went from 408 dps to 349, which is also a 14% decrease. So 14% down across the board it seems.

yep this was the same in the beta. good improvement to rotation but ultimately it didn't matter because the damage was subpar.

Easier to maintain plasma that does less dps than Silver Centurion who can easily stack plasma.. Omega Sentinel I believe also can deal plasma.. but seems ironman iw has the weakest plasma dps.. seems good on paper but still meh.

IMIW does have consistent access to power drain while his plasma is up at least. SC has it on his SP3, but not on his basic attacks. OS’ plasma is only against mutants to replace incinerate and doesn’t have any additional abilities. So at the very least IMIW has more consistent utility with his plasma up, but I would agree with an argument that the utility isn’t worth it if it takes that much longer to finish the fight. He won’t be getting ranked up on my team as he stands. Better than the Psychoman buff, but in the worst 5 of all buffs to date.

Now the question is: does the 14% decrease actually make IMIW not strong enough?

I have him only 5* r3. With no synergies his plasma ticks approximately for:
    1 stack - 270
    2 stacks - 600
    3 stacks - 1000
These are rough numbers but they aren't bad at all imo. So despite his lower damage, he is still solid option imo and deals enough damage to be viable for content.

The problem is that the majority, or at least a sizable portion, of his damage is coming or should be coming from the plasma DOT the way he is built out. So while the numbers may not look bad, Kabam effectively took damage away from him without compensating elsewhere. They traded his damage out to improve a utility (tiny power drain and slight power lock) that isn’t needed by other champs who can just finish the fight faster and not have to worry about needing said utility. And that’s not to say that the utility is bad either. But it is to say that this is closer to a nerf than it is the buff. I am hoping it is just a mistake and they accidentally loaded the beta kit and not what is on the website. What’s on the website is a solid increase in damage and would make him significantly better because it would be nearly double the damage of what went live.

The actual game says something different. He does 6972 plasma damage over 10 seconds and not 10281. Either there is a typo on the official website or a bug in game.

Exactly. What they uploaded is the kit that was used in the beta, so one of two mistakes happened. Either the website is in error or is outright misinformation, or Kabam mistakenly uploaded the beta kit as is without the updates as communicated on the website.

i hope that's the case because i know there were plenty of people who voiced concern. and it would be great if they listened and adjusted the numbers.

6*r2 this isn’t very good at all. 3 stacks were ticking at 1200 damage but took forever to build up.
You are not playing him correctly, you need to use a heavy when you convert your plasmas to get the attack increase, . This was my 5/65 and I only got to 3 plasmas before he died, converting your plasmas with the heavy is crucial to his playstyle as it sky rockets his damage to levels that make his long ramp worth it.

I know he isn't great but I managed to get WS solo in 226 hits with a 6* R1 unduped (no suicides) in 4 minutes
How did ur 6* R2 take more hits than a 6* R1 with approximately same fight duration
Granted I did a lot of heavy attacks but still the difference shouldn't be this much

How come a 6* r2 does a 4:02 kill, while my 5* r3 did it in 5:22? Is there something I miss? Because the power difference seems odd

Oh okay I’ll give that a try and see the results.

Still pretty clunky and his spacing for heavy spamming in the corner is horrible. So without parry it’ll be hard to convert them with heavy attacks. I’ll pass on ranking him up.

Now that Auntm.ai has been updated, it’s very obvious that either IMIW’s plasmas are dealing not enough damage or too much damage. Considering how poorly the beta was received I can’t imagine it would be the latter. Notifying the team to fix this asap would be greatly appreciated @Kabam Miike @“Kabam Jax”
