Masteries, Roadmaps, and Question(s): A brief address to Kabam

First off, I want to acknowledge that although roadmaps are the intended direction, not everything that is mentioned within them is GUARANTEED to happen, however, such changes or delays in direction are often communicated.

I know people joke that the masteries update will meet the same fate as bases, but they (masteries) are a crucial aspect of the game. Masteries offer diversity in gameplay, individuals rosters, and highlight the viability and skills of champs in a variety of situations; but they have been sitting, untouched, for years now, with many people knowing about a once proposed update that never happened.

Now I know some will say nothing was promised and some will say the opposite and such, and I'm not trying to debate anything, but when there were literally several "coming soon" masteries in the game for years and they had to be removed because too many questions were being asked, that's a problem, and that says something, when it's just ignored outside of a changelog.

Historically, Kabam has not been the best with communication, and this isn't to rip on them, as I know there are many problems going on, but a bit of communication about such large, vital parts of the game would go a long way, even if nothing is being done on this aspect, it would be nice to say it, as it's been years since a change was proposed, but the community has received nothing other than radio silence! I know typically the assumption that comes with said silence is that nothing is being done, or it's in early development, but the game is community driven, and if questions can't be asked, nor answered, what's the point of a forum!?

With regard to masteries, my questions are as follows:
1) First and foremost, is anything being done? Is there any news on masteries 2.0?
2) What's up with mastery presets? We have it in battlegrounds, so the tech exists, but is it soon going to be accessible across other game modes?
3) If presets aren't being looked at, is it going to be possible to reduce mastery costs once they're unlocked (i.e., I've paid carb cores to unlock deep wounds and such, why should I pay units again and again, every time I reset my masteries?)
4) Was the Pure Skill mastery ever fixed? I remember way back there was an issue with it, but I can't seem to find an announcement about it working as intended or being fixed.

    It seems like game developer is vacillating on Masteries as there are synergies, relics and boosts.

    Had to google that word but you are right. Also more champs and even certain fights have ties to the existing mastery system, making the changes of a change remote.

    The issue with this though, is that this isn’t a viable longterm solution. For instance, we can all save our units to unlock masteries (i.e., we can all save to unlock willpower), but we can’t target specific relics, champs, etc, outside of buying a ton of the crystal(s) they’re in and hoping for the best.

    Albeit RNG is a core mechanic of the game, it should not be used as a substitute for something which everyone should have access to. Like imagine rolling crystals to unlock masteries rather than having control over your mastery setup, seems pretty bleak…

    That being said, this all seems like one massive bandaid, a temporary solution to the larger problem. But it’s been years since anything was done with masteries, and it’s time the community get a straight response! The game has been around for 7-8 years, and truly very little has been done in terms of what was said regarding masteries. This wouldn’t be such an issue if masteries had little to no affect on the game, but that’s just not case, as they’re literally what makes your roster special when compared to someone else’s roster; as masteries individualize everyone’s setup in game.

    Kabam is abysmal at communication in general but I believe they mentioned at some point a while ago (although it could have been a forum member posting) that masteries are difficult for them now that the game has progressed because it limits future design decisions. They basically might have to spend extra time figuring out new champ abilities to try to make sure there aren't unintended interactions (which they are already kind of bad at) when masteries are added in that would make the champs more powerful than they want and either make them not give champs certain abilities or make them design future content to be even more difficult for everyone because some people might have a specific mastery setup that makes certain champs/abilities stronger than they want them to be.

    I also have a memory of them stating something along those lines. Being hesitant to touch the masteries because all existing and future champions, nodes and content would have to be balanced around any changes made. (Though i don't know how this applies to giving us presets. Please kabam we already have them in battlegrounds just add it to the main setups)
