Why are we suddenly fighting a 3 battle group alliance war when we only have 2?

Is this common? I have literally never seen it before in any alliance I’ve played in. Suddenly we’re matched with an alliance and fighting a war where they have defenders placed in three battle groups.

As you can see from my pictures - we don’t have a single defender in battle group 3. We’re a 2BG alliance and as such get paired with ones.

Is this just a random rare but possible occurrence? Like, it does seem silly that there’s not even a hope of us winning no matter what we do, so that’s odd.

But yeah, basically I’m saying is this normal? Has it happened to your alliance?

    This is an issue with the Matchmaking itself. You literally want to keep checking to make sure the correct BG stays up. We are a 1 BG Alliance and we got thrown into a 2 BG battle. Zero defenders placed in BG2.

    I have been checking it every half a day, and two times it went from the saved 1 BG to 2/3

    We're a 38 mill rating alliance, playing AW just for this month's objectives tbh.
    We just matched against a 30K alliance where everyone has been gone for years except the leader. So that's just 5 defenders.
    The matchmaking is a bit wonky...

    The matchmaking doesn't take you rating, prestige or anything else into account. The only thing that matters in who you get put against is your AW rating, literally nothing else.

    Something had to have gotten messed up with in your BG enlistment for this to happen. Rather that be an accidental click or some weirdo glitch.
