Why shrink the viewable area for mail in-game?

Why has the viewable area for mail text been shrunk so drastically? It used to fill up most of the grey area and now it is much smaller. I know it's not a huge deal but it is another visual annoyance.

    Very little in the menu screens is formatted correctly these days.......
