Does this mean that I will not be able to claim any of the milestone rewards despite being able to contribute?

    It even tells you before you contribute to the alliance that you join too late and you can't claim any rewards from the alliance. Good for the alliance and not so good for you. This is a reading thing. Reading is an important part of the game.
