Light Essence: A Question of Consideration

As we all know, Luminatrix, the new decent-looking skill champion chase, is bought by light essence. You can purchase him through “light spending” and grinding away at the game.

But what about the players who grind away to get light essence, but don’t, won’t, can’t or hates Kabam and will never give them a penny again, (not me, just throwing it in for the sake of the question,) spend money to finish the luminatrix chase? Will the light essence sit in our stash, a monument to “so close yet so far?” Will we be able to trade them in for 7* shards or something even slightly useful? Maybe even a 6* luminatrix?

    We've been able to trade similar currencies in the past. Like with sinister and nightcrawler, so you'll probably be able to trade this one.

    Anybody knows how many lights essence are available for free? Just trying to decide if it’s worth spending in some of the weekly offers. Thanks guys

    You can get the 6* for 5 light essence or trade them in for shards was confirmed on the live stream

    So other than spending on weekly offers how many light essence one can get by just doing content in the game?
