Banquet or Masteries?

I am an new valiant with 2 rank 3's. I do not have many masteries and only willpower really. Should I use my 2k units on unlocking the best masteries or shouldI instead save my units for the banquet event?

masteries are the best investment you can make with units. Definitely go that way if you haven’t unlocked despair, inequity, mystic dispersion, etc.

It’s not fun like popping crystals but it’s a much smarter move if you seriously want to develop your account.

2k units won’t get you much in the banquet…

As you progress your account, obviously your roster will grow. Having a solid mastery setup that makes those champs better is much more beneficial than a blind grab at RNG

And be sure to grab the weekly webstore crystal because it often has mastery cores in it.

there are more ways to get the stony and carb cores now. A few back issues had them on completion. The classic ones. The plat track crystals can drop them. And I think the banquet crystals have had them in the past too. If you have Sigil. They are there too

2k units can't get you anything

All the good rewards are backloaded after 20k units at least

Despair is the most important mastery if you use champs with a lot of unique debuffs. I don't own despair so Spider Woman and Luke Cage are beyond trash tier. Not going to waste units just because these champs need masteries to be good.

If youre active and valiant you have to have at least a couple mastery cores in your inventory from the rebirth and reunion crystals

Both Spider-Woman and Luke are more than good without Despair. They get better with it; but so do lots of champions.

Despair is a great Mastery, but only requires debuffs, not unique debuffs. And it grants the ability to shut down healing to an insane number of champions - Skill champions like Chee'ilth and Elsa; Science champions like Overseer, Mystic ones like Werewolf, Cosmic champs like Knull and Terrax; Tech champions like Shuri and Ironheart.

Oh, and take a look at the classic versions of Back Issues - several of the early ones will give you Mastery cores for exploration; which you can easily do on Autofight.

You can get free masteries in the Classic Back Issues quests, and from the free Weekly Webstore Crystal, as well as any Reunion or Rebirth crystals they give out in the game. I think Banquet itself gives out some of those crystals. Since Banquet is almost here, just see how many you can collect for free before buying them, and then see if the Banquet crystals have a chance for any free ones.

What someone said above is wrong. I got everything from the Banquet last year with 19,000 units, or close to it. The rewards do not "begin" at 20,000 units, LOL. Last year's Banquet was the BEST event ever in the 8 years I've been playing. I radically advanced my account with tons of god tier champ pick-ups, trophy champs, and a huge cornucopia of resources to rank them up. Best 19,000 units ever spent.
