Rank Down Alternative

FOREWORD: I understand that you want to keep the forum "organized" however, this is not asking for rank down tickets, which you have made clear you are not handing out, but rather proposing an alternative. PLEASE allow this to stay open for discussion, or link to a similar idea as searching the forums is not generating any similar topics...

It's clear that Kabam wants the meta of the game to be something evolving, but they rarely provide an opportunity for the players to recover and reset roster decisions. I feel like there's an easy fix that would allow players to recover some of the resources spent without having to add rank down tickets and without drastically altering the game's playability: follow the course of masteries and allow for characters to always be ranked down. Kabam doesn't need to give full resources back like they would with rank down tickets but return, say 80% of the rank up cats and gold. They could still keep all the level up gold and iso, thus making sure that there is thought put into which champions to rank up and use strategically, but providing players with at least some way to recover when the meta changes or a player pulls a 5* duplicate of a 4* champ that you had been ranking up. There's no downside to offering this from Kabam's perspective. In fact, this may promote more gold crystal purchases to fuel leveling up. End game players would be able to at least partially recover valuable T4CC/T5B/T2A/Rank up Gold and yet still wouldn't be able to drastically alter their rosters without penalty. New players wouldn't be as penalized for ill-informed decisions or under-developed rosters, yet would still promote attempting new content. Whales would still have an advantage in being able capitalize on flexibility and taking new champs to higher ranks, while free-to-play and casual spenders would have vastly increased playability, thus promoting an opportunity to spend on end game content.

Seriously, why is this not an option???

Well, it's counterproductive to the game. The game itself is built on working towards and/or buying Resources to acquire and Rank Champs. All areas center around it. Arenas, Quests, EQ, AQ, War. That's the point of the game. Being able to swap Resources on a regular basis defeats the purpose of playing.

That would be true if you were receiving full resources in return. Considering the massive amounts of gold and iso used in leveling up that would be, plus the 20% tax on returned resources, it's hardly "swapping" resources.

It's literally the same thing, minus a "Handling Fee". Lol

Losing half a million+ gold and half a million iso, plus .8 T2A to take a R4 5* back to R3 is hardly a "Handling Fee"

Ranking down champs is just a copeout for not being able to be strategic. There are people that rank every champ they get and then regret it later. Resources are limited in availability for a reason. Kabam needs to make money and they also have to try and keep the game going. If you are able to push resources around, why would you need to buy anything? People would rank down for special use with another champ then rank back up another champ. Takes the strategy put of the game.

T2A are in the glory store. You can recoup 20% of a T2A easily from the store. Defeats your theory.

4600 Glory for 5400 T2A shards? That's only 15% of a T2A, which means you would have to devote pretty much an entire week to recovering the loss and still be short.

Besides, the 80% I threw out was arbitrary. Make it 50% if it makes you happy. The point is, if the game is going to be flexible, then our rosters should be as well.

The game isnt flexible. It has a clear path of evolution. You do the things you need to do to earn the rewards and get better. Ranking down takes all that away.

If that path is so clear, why were there boycotts planned? Why did the developers back track? Why are there so many people up in arms STILL about rank down tickets? Where is the skill and strategy in devoting resources to a champion only to have a new champion become a better version of that champion? Ever since 12.0, the developers have made wide spread changes in effort to promote using MORE champions, not fewer. Shouldn't we give players the opportunity to develop strategies for wider uses of champions, not relegate them to following the advice of the end game users only? Wouldn't a greater variety of champions being used more quickly expose bugs? The game does not have a clear path of evolution given we don't know what new content is going to bring until it is active. We don't know what new champs capabilities will include until put into the hands of the testers. If that was made more widespread, I could see your point. I just don't see how doing something like this, where you're still penalized for poor decisions, would upset the game. Did making masteries more fluid destroy the game?

The path is to start adding more resources for 5/6* champs. Act 6 will give us that opportunity. This is the path of where the game is going. The boycott was because there were changes made to a game mode without proper notification and feedback. Nobody wanted diversity in the first place and now they don't want to get rid of it. The community wants to have more input in the changes being done to game modes and that is where the boycott comes into play. They backtracked because it wasn't smart to spring new rules on the player base with only 2 weeks to prepare. Kabam realized this through the community uproar and took heed. They did the right thing in this case.
If rank down tickets NEVER came about, no one would keep asking for them. But since they gave them out after 12.0, everything thinks that every time new champs or content is introduced, we should get RDT's. That's not how it works and no other game out there works that way either. I play Marvel Strike Force and Marvel Future Fight. I even tried the Transformers game. None of those games allow for you to rank down the champs you get even when new content is introduced. Marvel Future Fight gives out WAY to many freebies to the player base. I only log in for the freebies now. There will always be new champs added and different game content developed. You just need to adapt and make the right choices on your champs. Look for ones that can adapt to different content and not just the one trick ponies.
You are right, we don't know what new abilities will be on new champs and thats part of the fun. You HAVE to be able to have a strategy to keep going with this game. If you can rank down anyone you want at any time, even with penalties then there isn't a need to try and come up with different content. Even if you put a penalty on the rank down, then you will have people say the cost is too steep and want to lessened. They will keep asking for the free RDT that doesn't cost any resources or have a penalty.
12.0 wasn't about widespread changes either. It was about correcting champs that would decimate future/current content. Thats what 12.0 was about. No current champ can compare to SW or Thor pre 12.0 period. We should be restricted to using fewer champs, thats the beauty of this game. Thats what making educated decisions are for. Communicating with teammates, watching youtube players, coming to the forums. All sources of info. Sometimes though, you should just rank who you want to rank. My 5* Taskmaster wasn't a popular choice in my alliances for R4 but i did it anyway because i really like the character and the champ. I'll live with it cause i like using him.
The fact is the game will always change and evolve until it just stops being supported. Play the game how it's designed and quit looking for the easy way out.

Right because let’s face it if you’ve been playing for any amount of time you’ve had to rank up older champs to make progress here and there but then every 2 weeks someone is getting outdated and without a month or 2 half your roster is basically obsolete especially on a constantly dynamic alliance war setting

This is another reason RDT's should have never been introduced. Most players think new champs always warrant RDT's because it makes other champs useless (100% inaccurate).

Tbh....I would gladly take the rank down tickets we got last time where we got the cats and alpha back but no gold or iso. I mean if you grind or just play in general you should have a lot iso...gold maybe not...but I’d rather rank down a crappy defender champ that I don’t want to use for any other area of the game.

Oh please I’ve thought that since day 1. You put anything a year old on D and watch it kill like the newest and shiniest CHEAP KILLING buuuuuugged defenders.

And besides just look at damage and utility for offense. Most the OG roster was gods, trash with a few solid champs mixed in. But past that we had Karnak as the best Anti-cheap defender then bring in Corvus and Proxima and they nearly make my point for me
  • Epsilon3Epsilon3 Member Posts: 1,138 ★★★
Plus I’ve never been fully for them. Make them DEMAND a long cool down or part of the monthly calendar WAY at the end and if you ever have 2 at a time the second one IMMEDIATELY expires

Give us more t2a and other rank up materials at a faster rate and maybe people would stop crying for rank down tickets.. I shouldn't have to wait months or possibly a year just to r4 a new champ, and that's with being in a platinum alliance and having 100% lol.

Formerly end game content like T2A need to be more common now that the overall meta has shifted from 4*s to 5*s being the median curve for content. Master quest is the new Heroic. When new players are pulling 4*s in their first few weeks, that's a clear sign that 4* are low level content now.

And how about balance the roster a bit? Don't make us wait for God characters to come along. Balance the game so there are no Gods
