Favorite versus useful characters

I'm sure this has been asked multiple times, but how much does your opinion of comic book characters influence your decisions in the game? I have prioritized ranking up Rogue because she is one of my favorites, but I also haven't done much with Taskmaster or Moon Knight even though I really like them. How do you trade off playing your favorites versus advancing in the game?
