It does feel very over-tuned for a side quest. Opinions differ on how over-tuned it is; but no, Kabam aren't going to change it. Have you tried a robot, like Ultron? Both Titania and Hulk are amazing; and Overseer is pretty solid, too. On the one hand, if your focus is BGs, then Hulk is probably the best BGs champ. In the other hand, if he's at r3, you may not get to play with him very often 🤔

Dust is designed so that she works well against champions that Purify. She's not necessarily going to work well against particular node combinations which are designed to be helpful to champions that Purify. Why change a champion just because a particular part in Alliance War doesn't suit them?

Not just that: it's almost certain that you'll need to use Deathless KG in a quest, in order to Awaken him. So (assuming you're planning to r2 him at all), it makes more sense to r2 him early, in order to make the challenge to Awaken him easier.
